The Buba Cup?
I came across the page and read about the "Buba Cup"! I never knew we had a cup much less one with such a redneck name. We should follow this theme and come up with more awards. The USA and Troy should play for the Gump Cup. UL and ULM could play for the Duck Cup. Etc... Etc...

Quote:About the Bubas Cup
The Sun Belt Conference’s annual all sports championship trophy, the “Bubas Cup,” is named after the conference’s first commissioner.
A native of Gary, Indiana, Vic Bubas graduated from Gary Lew Wallace High School in 1944. Bubas was a two-time All-Conference selection at North Carolina State, helped the Wolfpack win four Southern Conference titles, and played in the 1950 NCAA Final Four.
He graduated in 1951 and stayed on as an assistant coach at North Carolina State until 1959, at which time he was named the Head Basketball Coach at Duke University. He took the Blue Devils to the Final Four in 1963, 1964 and 1966. Duke was ranked in the top fifteen of the nation in eight of his 10 seasons as head coach. Bubas posted a career record of 213 wins and 67 losses, winning an astonishing 76.1 percent of his games. He served as a Duke administrator from 1969-1976, including the last three years as Vice President of the university.
On October 6, 1976, Bubas was named the first Commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference. He was named by the NCAA to the prestigious Division 1 Basketball Committee in 1979 for a six-year term and served as chair of the prestigious group for the 1984-85 season. Bubas served as Sun Belt Conference Commissioner for 14 years until his retirement in 1990. He led the conference during a period in which its membership increased from six to eight and the number of sports sponsored grew from four to 10.

Thank you for the copy and paste. Oh what skills you have. I read the thing. I just care about football and basketball. I wonder what MT does with all those Buba Cups?

This is funny because Middle has no swimming and diving. Nice try though.
Edit: in Fact Swimming and Diving is the only sport MT didn't compete in.

And the only sport MT has that Louisiana doesn't have is Women's golf. We finished in 2nd so if you subtract those points from our total. we still finished 40 ahead of Louisiana. But let's not bring logic into this. I don't hear Cajuns complaining about non major sports when it comes to softball season each year.

What's funny is we don't sponsor swim and dive at all....
WKU is the only member to sponsor every Sun Belt sport. What's funnier is the only sport we sponsor that Louisiana doesn't is women's golf and I can assure you we've been outscoring you by more than just one sport's worth of points.
For the OP, there's nothing redneck about it at all, it's the guy's name and it's pronounced boo-bas, not bubbas.

After being n this conference this long? Yes. The only people who give a rat's butt are MT. There is ZERO national recognition of it. There is ZERO money awarded. LITERALLY all you get is a cup. No NCAA berth, no bowl game, no banners, nothing but a dumb cup.
Tell me, how may times have you walked a recruit through you Hall of Lame and said here is our Boobas cups, and he said WOW? He is more likely to laugh and say "haha, he said boobies...." or "What's a Boobas cup?"

So one fan, who you know nothing about what his connection to this conference or one of it's members is(could be a member of the class of 1945 former player, worked in the athletic department, has never missed a home game, could be the father of a an incoming freshman football recruit who knows nothing about this conference, could be amywhere in between) proves that the Bubas cup is irrelevant...okay.
Regarding the rest of your nonsense, first of all our Bubas cups are in the athletic offices, not the HOF, and I've never walked a recruit through either one of those buildings.
Regarding "the only people who give a rat's butt are MT..." I guess WKU didn't feature their wins on their website, there was no reference to the Bubas cup in that "WKU championship effort" and there's never been a thread on this forum or the Haven when WKU won it?
I know that you (rather foolishly) don't care, but you don't speak for all Western fans, let alone the conference.

I guarantee you it is important to every atheltic department staff of every school in the conference, particularly those that are not directly related to one sport. To some, like the Warhawks, that may tier their sports funding, it may not have relevance that it does for an athletic department like Texas St or UTA, where we fund all sports fully.
Make fun of it if you want, but I guarantee you folks who follow the whole athletic department of their school will keep an eye on it.

Yes they do. And they are all equally lame. It is stupid. And for the record, the Director's Cup, which WKU just won, is almost as stupid. At least it compares you to schools nationwide.
