I agree that NIU was the best team in the MAC last year. I don't think anyone has disagreed with that opinion. It seems there are a few NIU fans who want to spin the MACC game one way and spin the Orange Bowl another way.
Who is spinning the Orange Bowl any way? NIU was outplayed by a much better team, similar to what happened to Kent in the MAC Championship.

Getting smoked 31-10 certainly equates to a double OT game decided by an ill-timed "reverse to a walk-on TE".

If you actually watched both of the games, yes.

Now you are just being a sore loser.
I have to agree with (obnoxious) NIU fan again, the two situations were actually very similar.
NIU was marching down the field to tie the game at the very end of the 3Q, had a few thing went differently and NIU had pulled out the win it would be difficult to argue that NIU was the "better" team. Sure, had they won, they could say they were the better team that night or for those 3-4 hours, etc., but FSU was the superior talented team no way around it. Kent State hung in there a little bit longer and did manage to take the game to OT but had Kent won, they could have claimed to be the better team that night but it would be difficult to ignore what physically happened in the game and that NIU was the overall better team, just not that night.
Not to pile on NIU fans, but it would have been a 2010 Miami situation; no way even a Miami fan can say that that 2010 Miami team was the better team. Had those two teams played 10 times, Miami may not have won another game. Same thing with (sorry Bulls fans) the 2008 Bulls over Ball State MACC. Even the most die-hard Bulls fan should have a hard time saying with a straight face that the 2008 Bulls were the better team. Ball State was loaded that year.

NIU has been in 4 MACC games in the last 10 years; in all of them, I think the Huskies were clearly the overall better team. We are 2-2 in those games, and with just a couple of different ball bounces could have been 4-0...or 0-4.
