Who really is "the best of the rest"
[/size]I see many posts and threads regarding the actions of the P5. Most of those threads include comments about "the best of the rest" and what impact they would have on P5 seperation. In your UNbiased opinion who would that be. Here are my top 25 best of the rest based on football potential and legacy in no particular order:

1. Boise State
2. Nevada
3. Utah State
4. Hawaii
5. UCONN
6. ECU
7. South Florida
8. Tulsa
9. Houston
10. Southern Miss
11. Marshall
12. LA Tech
13. UTSA
14. LA Laffayette
15. Arkansas State
16. UTEP
17. Rice
18. Troy
19. San Diego St
20. North Texas
21. MTSU/San Jose St -IMO about the same over time
22. Colorado State
23. Air Force
24. Navy
25. Tulane/Memphis - 01-wingedeagle tough but as a whole would be good schools to have

I'll give Boise State football, and that is what matters now, but in all the other sports they suck.

Best of the rest... The only people who care about this are at our own given schools. Outside of that majority don't and won't. We all have the exact same access to the 4 team playoff as well as the one spot in the added Bowls formerly known as BCS. These next few years are going to be pointless as far as really determining who are the better teams until this conf movement stops.

RE: Who really is "the best of the rest"
I would have to add Fresno State and remove Navy. I don't think their potential is that great. Cincinnati should be on there. Replace Air Force with SMU because they do have potential. Bottom line is just about every school has the potential to be great, sustaining it is the tricky part.

Please read the bolded above that states no particular order. This means they are not rankings just the top 25 teams that have I feel have more to offer than others.I left out cincy who i really do feel needs to be included though

RE: Who really is "the best of the rest"
Based on stadium, football legacy, fanbase and national following it's still BYU and the rest. Boise State is currently the media's darling has two BCS bowl victories but things can be cyclical. Ten years ago, Colorado State was one of the best football programs outside the "Big Six" and Boise State was an afterthought, now it's the opposite. Cincinnati was just a C-USA also ran and Fresno State and Southern Miss were seen as "giant killers". Fifteen years ago, TCU was seen as a lost cause, same for SMU, Rice and Tulsa. Wyoming had a Top 25 program and Tulane was about to have its undefeated season. UCF, USF, Boise, Nevada, Marshall, North Texas and Idaho had just transitioned to Div I-A and nobody thought much of them.

My point is there can't really be a "best of the rest" ranking because what's "hot" today might not be so 5 years from now and viceversa.

You reward a one dimensional Boise but then penalize Memphis for it (regarding bb and fb).

I think they also have a good wrestling program but I am not sure.

There are some quality schools not on this list due to football being their one bad sport which makes me sad but hey this list does say for football only.
