If it could work with tickets and stuff then I love it. But I don't think it would work out.

The event can be successful but the key is to select teams that have great traveling fan bases or either have alumni base within the selected city. You also have to do an outstanding job of marketing the event in the region to get the attention of the casual fan. But once you've done that you that you still have to get a quality match up.

Instead of a Mega showdown, a kickoff classic in Atlanta featuring the defending SBC champs vs the defending MAC champs is doable. If you get Ga Southern in the first game, our alum and Chic-Fil-a owner Dan Cathy can make it happen as part of the espn kickoff weekend.

Just when I thought I disliked GaSo as much as I possibly could, something else comes up and furthers it.

2008 Bama vs Clemson
2009 Bama vs Va Tech
2010 LSU vs UNC
2011 Boise vs UGA
2012 Clemson vs Auburn(Friday) Tennessee vs NC State(Saturday)
2013 Bama vs Va Tech
2014 Ole Miss vs Boise(Friday) Alabama vs WVU(Saturday)
How does a SBC vs MAC game even remotely fit that mold? As a Thursday night? Just don't see it.

Obviously it won't be the headliner, but more of a undercard to kickoff the weekend. Having the conference champions from the previous year gives it a little bit of a story.

I knew that even you are not dense enough to suggest it would be the headliner, but were you thinking Friday night? Because even that isn't happening and I'm not sure I can see it being a 3 day event, especially adding a game that 99% of the fans of the other participating schools wouldn't care about in the slightest.

National tv, part of the kickoff weekend in a prime recruiting state. You are right, nobody would want to be a part of that.

You miss the point by a mile. Why would Chick Fil A want any part of a SBC vs MAC matchup that would be a stretch to draw 25,000.

And you....
Oh...well, I guess you're right. It would be close to me. :)
Accessibility and space would be key for Nashville. I'm sure Titans stadium could be rented for a weekend if it happened before the NFL season starts.
I doubt this would ever fly, but it would be a really cool event. To have 6 fan bases all in one town at the same time would garner some attention.

The owner Dan Cathy and his wife are Ga Southern alums. If he tells the Atlanta Athletic Council to jump, they ask how high. You don't say no to a huge supporter for decades with a $4 billion bank account.

Yes, nothing looks better than the owner making a bad business decision to benefit his alma mater. Don't hold your breath on this one pal. It wouldn't make sense on Friday because they'll always be able to find a dramatically more attractive game for Friday night, it wouldn't make sense on Thursday night because no one from the Friday or Saturday matchups will travel early enough for a MAC vs Sun Belt on Thursday night and how many MAC fans will make it down in time for a Thursday night kickoff.
You still haven't given anything resembling a plan or a real reason that this would work. Not that I expected it.

I can see SBC vs.CUSA better than a SBC vs MAC. MAC fans don't travel that well and would have a further distance to travel as opposed to the CUSA schools.

Saturday afternoon and you're lucky to get ESPNU.

A hardcore conservative business owner? Nah, I'm sure h'd jump through hoops and throw money away to help Southern.
Truly delusional right there

I think this would be a great idea. With its new admits from the Sunbelt CUSA is now an extension of the Sunbelt Conference or officially Sunbelt 2

Would that make the AAC "officially" CUSA 2? Or since CUSA is apparently Sun Belt 2 would that make AAC "officially" Sun Belt 3?
Inquiring minds want to know...

UAB vs Troy needs to be played in Alabama. Besides, no one is CUSA would go for this idea. UAB would gladly play that game every year in Birmingham, but Atlanta... not so much. Besides it isn't even a rivalry according to some stupid Troy fans
