I'm sure it's been said earlier in the thread, but QBs that rate as highly as Briscoe don't come to schools like UAB to sit the bench. AB may be the starter out of the gate, but I feel like Briscoe is the guy that will get the TLC from McGee to try and turn him into the next Ryan Mallett.
I expect whatever gap is between the two to close quickly if Briscoe is as good as advertised. You don't sign an ESPN 4 star, #18 nationally ranked HS QB in his class to have him only start as a Senior, and that's what would happen if AB remains the starter throughout his UAB career.
I would expect AB to be the #1 guy until him and JB are even, then I think it's JB's job.

It is strange how Briscoe, who was so highly rated, fell so far. He had an offer from Baylor and committed at one point. I wonder what happened. I hope he turns out great for us, but he didn't just sign with us; he gray shirted. I like his highlights online, though, and he is big..

"Briscoe graduated from Stratford in 2012 but delayed full-time enrollment as a grayshirt until January."
Most of the time grey shirt means there wasnt enough spots or scholarships available, so he didnt enroll or sign a letter of intent. Cuz they would have to fork out money for the time being. So my guess would be that he'll receive a scholarship as he enrolls in January or he'll have to earn one through spring training. Of course i could be completely wrong with the whole explanation.

By halfway through the season McGee could choose between a. the guy with 31 separate sidelining injuries, b. the guy who knew at best half the playbook and refused to learn more, and c. the guy who'd thrown 22 college passes and had 21 of them intercepted and returned for touchdowns. And two talented freshmen redshirting, yet zero discussion of abandoning the redshirt. That told me that he did not think either of those two would ever play here.
Neither of them were anywhere close to being able to contribute to the team this year. Not saying they didn't have potential. I think Greer could have developed into a good QB, but I don't think Craft would have ever started at any school in conference.
Not sure how accurate that is about playing at no school in conference. It is correct this system was not a good fit, he was a spread QB but the Callaway staff thought enough to only recruit him and he had offers from 2 other conf. Schools for football. He was way ahead of Greer from the beginning and so was AB obviously was way ahead of both.
As far as Perry, JP actually had the larger play book. AB simply cannot read defenses and his throws are pre-determined by the coaching staff. When the defense shuts the first option down that is when chaos ensues. The staff had to cut AB's play book way down. Perry's issue is McGee thinks he won't stay in the pocket and tries to run too much. McGee thinks he quits looking down field too soon and starts looking for a place to run to. Unless AB can learn to read defenses and go through his progressions I will be shocked if he is the starter next season. My best guess is Perry transfers as a 5th year Senior. We sign a JUCO qb. The starter will be the un-named JUCO and AB and JB will fight it out for #2 unless JB is simply that good. Miller will be transferring out as well.
If we don't get a JUCO maybe JP stays and we have a three way battle next season and JB wins the spot over AB and JP.

If that is the case that concerns me about McGee. We have a beat up qb that can barely walk that can't read a defense playing when we have a healthy backup qb whose flaw is that he gets happy feet and runs to quick. Not knocking AB performance but some of the games i would have liked to see the qb run instead of taking a sack. Let's face it with the performance of the offense line in pass blocking we needed to run the qb. Some of McGee's playcalling took too long to develop with our offense line. Of course that may be why we are looking for a WR coach, if they were not running the proper routes to help the timing.
Also general question, Did anyone see our WR run a hot route last year when the other team blitzed?

Or see the slot man pinch inside and chip a LB ?

^^^Agree.
What's better--worried about giving up a 10 yard pass for a 5 yard QB scramble or getting sacked, turning it over, both, or (in the very rare case) throwing it away for a 0 yard gain?
