For anyone that is staying in the Ft. Lauderdale area, what are some of the drinking establishments we should take over?

I'm staying south of the airport most likely and the Hollywood Ale House was the one I was eyeing up. It's walking distance from a few of the hotels in the area. (Hampton Inn, La Quinta and others).

Miller's isn't a bad bar. There is one right in Lombard. It looks like there are quite a few bars towards downtown Ft. Lauderdale. I'll be off of Sterling rd. I wonder if there is much in that area.

RE: Huskie Hotels
Just booked Hampton Inn- city center for $432 for 2 nights (first night discounted to $170 but 2nd night at $220). I wanted more like $125-$150 per night, but I'm banking on it being worth a little more. I can't think of any hotel I'd rather be than this one in the heart of downtown Ft. Lauderdale and within walking distance of the NYE bash. Glad to know we can drink and party till 3am and walk back to hotel...

Exactly the tipping point for me. If we want to go out NYE, we won't have to go far.

Now scouting food.

"The Floridian" over on Las Olas still serves Ft Lauderdale's best breakfast.Basically a large dumpy diner that's been open since the 1930's in the city's artsy area. One of Rachel Ray's favorites, Open 24 hrs, very resonable prices with big portions . Favorite place to eat seafood is the Seawatch in Pompano. Best steaks and very expensive is NY Prime in Boca. The food is usually ok at any of the Miller's Ale Houses, although I prefer the grilled wings at any of the Bru's Roons.
My favorite raw bars(smoked fish dip, steamers, ribs, etc) are still Flanagan's in east Boca and the Whale's Rib in Deerfield Beach(has been featured on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives).

Hey Boca have you tried Sonnys Famous Steak Hoagies? We're a big fan of Diners drive-ins and dives and wanted to check some of the restaurants in the area that have been on the show.

I haven't been there. But there is a Primanti Bros.(open after bar closings) about 1 block south on A1A. I usually go to Big Al's for Cheesesteaks(open after bar closings)-Delray Beach. La Spada's makes a very good Italian/Traditional Hoagies-(not a 24 hr) on Seagrape(off Commercial Blvd near A1A in Lauderdale by the Sea or Boca near Town Center Mall.

If anyone has an extra space in their hotel accommodations, I am looking for a spot. Prices are expensive for a single. Ill sleep on the floor if need be. I dont really care.

RE: Huskie Hotels
Finally ended up settling on the El Palacio Sports Hotel. It's 1/2 mile from Sun Life stadium right by Calder Race track/casino. The key part was it is walking distance from the stadium. There is a liquor store and Walmart by there as well. We'll grab some beer and plan to drop by a tailgate or two. There will be 4 of us in our group. Looking forward to it. Finally have everything booked.

Staying at Universal Palms in Fort Lauderdale. Hell of a good deal and looks decent. Ends up at $125 per night when I booked the same time I booked my Southwest flight. Just fyi..
