This is what will get ECU in, Cinny, USF, UCF, Temple, Navy, even UofL and others not wanting too many western schools.

In any event, this eliminates some good programs. USM, ECU, USU.....

It also means that if you look for teams that are in a good market that get good ratings and play good football, you are on the short list for the BE.

These in the West are most likely to be courted but other schools will get looks in the west as well.

Add to the list for the east, but remember it is market first, market capture second, quality football third. Have 2 or 1 of 3 and not 3 of 3, you are not on the list. JMO.

explain some of the addition so far then, many get almost zero market capture.

Now. Either more west teams get added or I am certain SDSU and Boise are gone. Why? TV negotiations are taking a bigger hit every day. Some of you (ECU fans) will want that, but common sense would tell you the teams that draw on TV are the most important ones. Therefore Boise, Louisvillle, and Cincy are the cash. If I was the Big East I would make them all happy. Lose one and the TV deal drops more.

The schools that offer the most -- and I hate saying this because I respect the hell out of your football program and school in general -- are out west. We need the absolute most bang for our buck at this stage of the game.

There's zero reason to add ECU preemptively because you'll join the moment you're asked, whether it's 2012 or 2013 or 2017.

Right now, it's about best available brands. And those are out west. Not only that, but keeping the western schools happy has taken on an increased significance. IMO, Boise has been our best football brand. We need to insulate them.

If we make an Eastern addition, it will likely be with basketball in mind (in which case UMASS comes into play... or a bball school). ECU's moribund basketball program makes their addition a liability.

IMO, the only way that ECU gets in is if it's for football only, and that's as a last resort. I could stomach that as they do have decent football. But basketball? No thanks.

What I would like to see Aresco do is not go after someone just to fill in open spots but instead just add football-only to get back to 12 and add one basketball school and stay at 16. Army might have said no before the playoff setup was announced, but maybe now they will reconsider. Not saying I want them, but they would be the better replacement as far as TV goes, for UConn and Rutgers. Then move Memphis to the proper division, the East and add two western schools to fill out the west division. The most logical being BYU and Air Force or Fresno as the other. I'd prefer Fresno to give us the Southern California market to go along with SDSU. After all, it's mostly about markets with the Big East.

On the basketball side, we could turn to Dayton as the 16th member. They have tradition and would be a nice addition for TV to give the Big East the Cleveland market. Anyone else would be a step down. You would be dipping into mid-major territory just to fill a spot vacated by a marquee name, UConn.

So what? Memphis was just announced for the WEST, so we can easily move to the logical division, the East. Add BYU and Air Force or Fresno to round out the West. Problem solved.
