There are already two Louisiana schools in the Sun Belt, one that is located only 30 miles away from La Tech. I would think that most SBC members would rather not have three members from Louisiana. CUSA has Tulane and Tech now, and it was debatable right up until we were invited to join as to whether or not CUSA thought there was room for two Louisiana schools in CUSA. We're a great fit for both CUSA and the SBC geographically, but hey, we're a great fit geographically for the SEC too, and everybody knows what that is worth.

They aren't a fit just for geography purposes. They are a fit financially, culturally and historically. I know Tech fans think they are above the Belt but only a fool can't see that they are a perfect fit. They fit with stAte, ULL, Troy, WKU, MTSU, etc. a lot better than they fit with UNCC, ODU, UAB, FIU, UNT, etc.

That ship has sailed though.

You guys complaining about having 3 schools in the same state. It's not like it is unprecidented to have more then 2 per state right??? After all the ACC has 4 school in North Carolina that are 40 miles from each other, and 2 are 8 miles from each other.

It can actually be benificial, creates rivalries and attention.

We keep saying that the ACC will be looking for a replacement, this may actually cause Notre Dame to go all in to the ACC.

RE: Its not over: Rutgers and Maryland to Big 10
This is the weirdest of the weird moves. SEC had TAMU fall in their lap. That one was easy. Big XII went for good football schools. Pac-12 took what they could get.

To me, this deal smacks almost more of a Big 10 FU to Notre Dame that is marginally about TV markets and academics.

Of course the "what's next" is what is compelling.

Big East has 13 losing Rutgers takes them to 12 so stopping would seem to make some sense, but most likely the ACC has to do something unless Notre Dame has a sudden change of heart to join fully. Don't see that so how does ACC get back to 14 or do they ramp on up?

Here are the ACC options as I see them.
OPTION 1. Limited action.
They invite either Louisville or UConn and call it a day.

OPTION 2. Go big.
Instead of taking one team, they take three taking two football schools and one non-football to get to 14 football and 16 basketball. Then you are looking at some mix of Louisville, Cincinnati, and UConn in football and you are looking at some mix of Georgetown, Marquette, DePaul, and St. John's.

Now for the Big East.
If they lose Rutgers and lose one to the ACC they only have 11 football schools.
OPTION 1.
Just add one, call it 12 and call it a day. Probably one of Air Force, Army, BYU, Fresno, Tulsa, ECU. But AFA, Army and BYU are longer shots because of prior disinterest.
OPTION 2.
Add three to get to 14.
Take the above list and add Charlotte, ODU, FIU.
OPTION 3.
Go all the way to 16.
List doesn't change unless they were to consider Tulane, FAU, or UAB.

CUSA if they lose two standing at 12 and can ride it out or add two. Probably MTSU and FAU.
If they lose one need to add one, probably the same list.

Don't see the Cajuns on the list with them sitting basically halfway between Rice and Tulane and two schools in the state already.
Don't see ASU making the list based on market size, ditto WKU.

As a CUSA fan WKU, MTSU, and stAte would be my front runners... but I don't run the league.

RE: Its not over: Rutgers and Maryland to Big 10
Rutgers to the Big 10 makes sense. Maryland is kind of a dumb move by the Big 10 and for Maryland to pony up $50 million plus.

While Im not sure other than the ACC taking a Big East school to replace Rutgers that any other moves are certain to be made. What sucks is that all of our homes may be destabilized again because Maryland is leaving the ACC for the Big Ten.

If the dominoes rickochet downward-everyone loses.

If I'm the ACC I take UCONN and call it a day.

Dennis Dodd claims Big 10 isn't done. That getting Maryland out was the blow to get their real target, North Carolina.

Notre Dame has no desire to limit itself to a regional conference; they are a national program with a national schedule. And now that they 'are back', they have no need for any conference where football is concerned.

Does this make the MWC more likely to accept Idaho and New Mexico State. Both are terrible programs with no media market to speak of, but at this point the MWC needs to worry about its survival. They saw what happened to the WAC. A couple of warm bodies within their footprint wouldn't be a terrible thing. At least NMSU has good basketball.

As for CUSA's next move, I think they're targets are as follows:

1. MTSU
2. WKU
3. FAU
4. Delaware
5. App State
6. Georgia Southern
7. James Madison
8. Georgia State

Time for the Sun Belt to make a preemptive strike. Either go after Georgia Southern and App State, or put out feelers to gauge Southern Miss and UAB's interest in the Sun Belt. UAB is more likely than Tulane. Tulane is a rich, private school known for academics. Much like Louisiana Tech, they look down their noses at Sun Belt schools. UAB doesn't sound attractive, but they could be looking for a change of scenery. UAB would give the Sun Belt Birmingham, which would provide more leverage in TV contract negotiations.

If I am the Sun Belt I attempt to poach CUSA and get USM, UAB, get UNT back on board and then offer App State.

I can only hope that if CUSA comes calling, none of the existing schools jump. I would hate if FAU jumped on this now, and anyone else for that matter.

So what if they have a better TV deal & Bowl Tie-in right now, doesn't mean they will in the near future with all the good teams gone.

And who wants to be the last to enter a room, only to have everyone get up and walk out... that's the CUSA!

App. St. and Ga. Southern would have better chances to compete. Rule #1 in the Sun Belt= don't get smashed by Memphis.

That had to be embarrassing. I feel for their marketing director Brad Smith, formerly of MT.
