Will that make you feel better or worse when we beat some of you in conference play? Or, do you think we'll win zero in the Belt?
As much as I hate the way the season has started, I really feel the guys will gel soon enough. And as we proved last year, a mediocre regular season doesn't mean you can't still make some noise in the conference tourney.
Everyone thinks you guys losing to a D2 team is funny because all offseason you guys posted how you were going to dominate and that Tony Mitchell was the greatest thing to ever happen to the Sun Belt.
Now we get to see you guys fall flat on your face and it's funny. You guys would be doing the same thing if it was reversed.
Tony Mitchell still is the greatest player ever to grace the Sun Belt. That's not us saying it, just us posting articles full of other people saying it. Just give the team time. We still have the most talented team in the Belt by far, just got to put it all together. Maaaaybe.....we lost that game on purpose just to make the Sun Belt look bad on our way out. And for the record, not a single Sun Belt team has really looked impressive this year, including MTSU.
TM couldn't carry the jock strap of some of the greatest SBC player...
Not too long ago Chris Marcus was a preseason AA pick and projected as a top 5 NBA pick.
The SBC had players like Mark West (ODU) that would have punished TM
Terry Catledge (USA) had the same type skills as TM but a lot more heart and talent.
All 3 of WKU's 1986-87 front court (best front court to play in the SBC) would own TM...all 3 NBA picks
Tellis Frank (NBA top 14 pick) was a 6'9 player that could dribble, drive, play inside or step out and nail a 3
Kannard Johnson 6'9 240 was the #20th player coming out of HS and reminds me a lot of TM. TONS of talent but didn't want to work hard enough to get the max out of it.
Then also on that front court was MR C.
Clarence Martin a 6'8 MAN with the built of a tone Mr American without all the "bulk muscle"
Chris Gatling (ODU) was another top 15 or so NBA pick from the SBC
Ervin Johnson (UNO) was a top 20 NBA pick and could score inside or out
That's just the big guys and not counting guards like
Dee Brown (Jacksonville) a top 20 NBA pick
I would take either Junie Lewis or Jeff Hodge (peanut butter & jelly) that made up one of if not the best backcourt (USA) to play in the SBC over TM
Lets not forget Derek Fisher another top 20 NBA pick that played pg at UALR and on many of the Lakers championship teams.
Ronnie Murphy (Jacksonville) top 20 NBA pick
That's just a handful and I could add 10 or 15 more players that most people on this board probably never heard of that I would take over Tony Mitchell....at least from what I've seen so far. And I don't have to go back that far...just educating you on the history of the SBC
