2. WKU - Took down in state rival and SEC member. 2-1 with only loss to Alabama.
3. Louisiana - Very very bad loss, only reason I have us at three is because we beat Troy and are still 2-1.
4. North Texas - Looking better than I thought this year, showed up vs LSU and Kansas State
5. FIU - Still think they are better than they playing right now, tough loss to UCF though
6. Troy - stop turning the ball over
7. stAte - Tough to judge based on opponents, they do have Aplin though8. MTSU - Blowout win this week, but it was Memphis
9. FAU - Pretty good showing against Georgia in the first half, got ugly second half
10. USA - expected in first year of play in FBS.
There has been some speculation on AStateNation that Aplin may not be 100%, and may have hurt his hand in the Memphis game.

I think most people who have watched the 1st three games feel ASU is about where it was last year at this point in the season, other than the fact they are not getting the same quality of play from the QB position.

That is a fact, and they and WKU have put targets on their backs, and will get everyones 'A' game.

Normally ASU fans are more excited about playing the OC teams like Memphis, or UCA. Not this year.

In fact almost everything you hear from the coaches, players and fans is about using the 1st 4 games to be ready for WKU, and then the SBC. That is totally different from the past.

RE: Week 3 Power Rankings
This time last year people had written WKU off, ULL was considered middle of the pack, UNT was excited about beating Indiana, Troy was considered a frontrunner after playing Arkansas within 10, FAU had played really well against Auburn and had their hopes up, FIU had big wins over UCF and Louisville.

I wouldn't read too much into the first three games. I do think Troy is back in contention but any one of 8 teams could win it this year. I think ULM gets FAU and USA this year so that gives them their best shot in a while.

Don't write ULL or ASU off because of their performance against legitimate top 25 teams on the road.

As far as WKU, you can pretty much count on ASU focusing on playing you for the next two weeks.

ASU better hope Alcorn State is not very good.

You will also get Malzahns 'A' game, something no one has up to this point during his short stay at ASU.

The most sane and rational post I have read since everyone jumped on ULM's nuts. Props.

I think WKU wins by 2 TD's vs Arkansas State. ASU has played some tough competition for sure, but I have a better overall feeling about WKU.

We didn't get the good fortune of playing terrible, overranked teams. Instead we went out and beat a good Troy team on the road. 1-0 in conference. It will be nice to be rid of North Texas and your ilk next season as you move into a weaker conference.

A win over an SEC opponent on the road is impressive for any SBC program. Its also nice not to go on the road and embarrass yourselves and ULM has accomplished both. That being said, they are still 1-1 for their efforts and we are still 1-0 in the SBC. Upsets are all about matchups and playing an opponent at the right time. Arkansas was ranked #8 before their win, but we have since learned they may be a bottom team this year in the SEC. We have also learned Auburn is young and not very good, and the Troy win has me feeling a little better today after the way they played against Miss State. Several people mentioned on this board talked about the TO's helping us at Troy, but they must have forgotten about the 2 TD's UL WR's dropped in the endzone. We are not as bad as we played this past weekend and we have plenty of time to prove it. We still determine our on destiny in the SBC right now.

RE: Week 3 Power Rankings
I think ULM's season could go one of two ways. Either, we look at these first two wins as huge improvements for them.

Or, those teams continue to falter and ULM's wins vs. them are devalued.

ULM needs to beat Baylor at home. If they lose to Baylor at home, the first two weeks won't matter.

Personally, I think ULM will beat Baylor, but its a huge game.

Fair enough. Will there be ESPN3?

So you think Troy is better than LSU or KSU? A little far-fetched don't you think? Good thing ULL didn't play a terrible, overranked team, they may have scored triple digits on you....in the first half.

It is very hard to get good Intel on ASU because Malzahn really has kept prying eyes at a distance.

We know he says he is very happy with how the team is progressing, but still says it is a ‘work in progress’.

As far as WKU, and ULM for that matter, sorry, no team will beat ASU at home this year or in the foreseeable future.

That leaves road games against FIU, UNT, UL and Troy, all good teams, as the big test, this year and I will have to wait and see Malzahns 'A' game against WKU, to even began to guess what the outcomes might be.

I understand we lost to Oklahoma State by a lot and got dominated. But, Oklahoma State puts up gawdy numbers against a lot of teams.

Also, I don't think we crack the top 25 this year. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how many more games Arkansas or Kentucky will be able to win, so as the season goes on the pollsters will not value those wins by the Toppers are Warhawks. One of those teams would have to go through the conference undefeated to get ranked IMO.

Exactly, Slappy. At this moment WKU and ULM are certainly 1 & 2.. I still think A stAte and UL are coming in at 3rd and 4th no particular order. Troy is in at 5...the rest is a crap shoot. Conference is so much better than last year, its ridiculous.

Z

We are a crap shoot? Considering who and how we have played, I'd give us a little credit and I think we have as good a chance as any of these teams to win the Belt this year.

When you start taking solace in moral victories, you are reaching. This could all change next week.. but right now you are 1-2. Good Luck next week.

Z

No solance in moral victories, just looking at the caliber of our competition. Yep we are 1-2 but certainly didn't give up 44 points in the first half like a certain Louisiana team. We lost to 2 rated teams (#2 & #13), but you guys got destroyed by the only rated team you've faced.05-mafia

Yet your lone win was against a poor SWAC team. Talking solance in the caliber of your opponent is celebrating moral victories. Beat someone in the FBS before you talk trash.04-rock

I will make one prediction about ASU, baring injuries by the end of the year everyone will be talking about an ASU player the same way everyone talked about Ty Hilton, even as a freshman.

He will be the most explosive, dynamic player on the field, in every SBC game he plays in.

Just like Ty he will absolutely drive opposing DCs crazy because they will have to try and come up with ways to slow him down, and ASU is going to make sure they are never 100% sure where he will line up.

Like FIU they are going to take full advantage of his talents, and let him make life hell for the other SBC teams for the next 4 years.

That is an easily found out top secret.

Malzahn gave everyone a heads up that he was about to unveil the fastest and most electric player on the roster 2 weeks ago, and they have let him run about 8 or so plays in 2 games.

Think he averaged about 13 or 14 yards on those carries.

David Oku, ASUs 4 star RB, who everyone though would be the difference make on this team, has already gone on record saying he hates him.

ASU should be ready to cut him loose against WKU. You will know who and what he is after that.

Good luck trying to stop him.
