Their plan is to turn any thread we post in into a pissing match so it goes to the smack board and off the main board.

Most of us Southern fans are just trying to state our case.

Fair enough. It was my impression that there was more to the issues during the VanGorder year (and perhaps to a certain extent, the Hatcher years) than a change in offense.

App State brings everything GS brings, but more in that they are in a different state and a research institution. NMSU brings good basketball, something the SBC is lacking in, and they are very close to a relatively large media market.

I thought the rumor was NMSU would be added as a football only school. did I hear wrong?

Your argument for shunning GaSouth is false.

You need to check your facts bud. We are not a research institution, our alternative energy research fellas are top notch no doubt, but we are currently not at research level yet. Not that I or anyone should care since this is a sports forum.

Thanks for the neg rep though Hammer.....you pee on the message board and throw negs my way b/c I call you on it.

It does make sense to like the idea of sharing a conference with like-minded institutions, though, right?

According to this, Ga Southern and Ga State would be the only Carnegie Doctoral/Research Universities in the Sun Belt. So I guess we can now change your vote on Georgia Southern to yes, right?

Well then I guess you guys should push out Troy, Middle Tenn, Western Kentucky, UALR, etc......

Fair enough. It was my impression that there was more to the issues during the VanGorder year (and perhaps to a certain extent, the Hatcher years) than a change in offense.

Hatcher tried his best to stop the bleeding, but most of the problems can be traced back to Van Gorder doing a complete 180 with the offense, and not adapting anything to the talent he had. He did his best to "clear roster room" for "his players" we had a LOT of players leave during those times... which causes us to get more aggressive in recruiting and go after players we shouldn't, and that came back to bite us. That man took a playoff caliber 8-3 team to 3-8 the next year. Things slowly turned around with Hatcher, but not fast enough. Most weren't happy with the way Hatcher got fired, but were very excited to get the Option back. It's our identity.

Not the point I'm making, sir. I'm just pointing out that it's reasonable to look at more than sports when deciding who to associate with in an athletic conference. I think the Liberty discussions around here show that to be the case. I'll also note that MTSU and UALR both have Doctoral/Research University classification, and Troy has widespread name recognition due to the marketing outside of their home state.

I am certainly not an expert on this subject, but it seems to me Georgia Southern is on par with all the schools in the SBC academics wise. Each one has their strengths and weaknesses.

Now, if you look at the Southern Conf, it is clear there are schools that are further along than us or App when it comes to academics. Furman, Elon, Wofford, Citadel......

My apologies man. I thought you all were. Relax though. Everything else was completely positive. Everything else I said about Southern is true as well. University Presidents definitely look at the quality of school when inviting. You can't take that out of realignment.

Well, I don't know what is going on across the country in Washington. But, the University of Georgia only recognizes these schools as research unis. Southern is consider regional. http://www.usg.edu/inst/group

UALR outsources that department to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. I stand corrected on MTSU, but they have an endowment of $48.2 million, dirt poor by comparison to any other major research university. You can call me sir, I'm used to that.

If it is on the internet it must be true!!!!!

Oh, wait.........

If you go to the actual Carnegie website, you will see that GSU and GaSo are NOT at the same level (we are higher), and that USA, UL, and FAU are all at the same higher level that GSU is. Oh, and FIU and UNT were also at the higher level.
