There have been a lot of rumors of a East West WAC similar to the CUSA MWC alliance. The WAC would add an eastern division consisting of Delaware, ODU, Liberty, JMU, UNC Charlotte, App State, Ga State, Ga Southern and possibly a couple of others. The CAA and SoCon are the two strongest conferences in FCS and it would be combining the best programs from each. It would definitely be a strong football conference from the start.
At the FCS level, yes it would.
11 FCS national championships and two wins over FBS top 10 ranked teams is a strong resume for any non bcs conference.
GSU....don't bother with all those stats.....the FBS flagship not parked in your yard means they all mean nothing.....
and lets be clear. Those wins were by Appy State over what turned out to be an awful Michigan team that year, and James Madison 4 days after Virginia Tech lost a very physical game to Boise State.
If they had both happened in 2011, then you might have something.
And please. The WAC would add east coast teams? That makes absolutely zero sense.
Pretty sure that Michigan team went like 8-4 or 9-3.

Michigan went 9-4 and beat Tebow and Florida in the bowl game.
Va Tech won 11 in a row and went 9-0 in the ACC.
Solid teams no doubt.

Lamar does not offer that. We do not need 3 gazillion teams in Texas. We should just rename ourselves the Southland conference #2 if we do that.
The Alliance/Merger might just decide to stun the planet by eschewing old thinking and scooping up Georgia State straight from FCS, taking that Atlanta market for themselves, and finally giving UAB a real conference rival.
As for the Sun Belt having 3 teams in Texas, since UNT will almost definitely be gone, that would be better than having 3 teams in Louisiana, for the purposes of recruiting and marketing, but many still want a defiant Tech.

RE: Would you want Lamar?
Is there away to conduct a top ten candidate poll like the BCS where we would each rank the top ten and the results calculated?
The candidates in alphabetical order would include:
1. Appalachian State - 20,222 students
2. Georgia State - 32,000
3. Georgia Southern - 20,212
4. Jacksonville State - 9,481
5. Lamar - 14,522
6. Kennesaw State - 24,175
7. Missouri State - 20,802
8. New Mexico State - 18,497
9. North Carolina Charlotte - 25,063
10. Texas San Antonio - 31,114
11. Texas State - 34,113
12. Valdosta State - 13,089
I listed the current enrollments to give an idea of the Alumni support and potential undergrad attendandance at home and away games.

If they're willing to take the hit in perception and quality of competition, let them. The SBC should not.

Difference being that Jacksonville State has been a quality FCS team for years while Valdosta State is Div II and Kennesaw has no team.

And GA State and UTSA did not have a team three years ago.
The questions is, do we have the capability to create a tabulation poll like the AP, Coaches or BCS poll?

By that logic, USA also had no team 3 years ago and in fact Alabama had no team 200 years ago. LOL
Not sure I get what you're after when you say tabulation poll. I guess you mean each voter ranks candidates and then the results are combined. I think that would have to be done off the boards to work. I dont think the software supports that kind of functionality.

I'll tell you what I say, but FloridaJag and his island of misfit football programs won't like it.
Such a poll would be a waste of time, for one thing you can eliminate:
Lamar
Jax St
Kennesaw St
Valdosta St
I would also eliminate New Mexico State, but there will be a small smattering of support for them from UNT and Louisiana.
The only truly realistic candidates at this point are:
App State
Georgia State
La Tech
Texas State
UTSA
Schools that shouldn't be ruled out, but are unlikely:
Charlotte
Georgia Southern
Missouri State
If FloridaJag would like to start a new thread asking people to rank their top ten( ) and calculate the results himself, there is nothing stopping him, but I'd be willing to bet that no more than 5 full time members of this board who are Sun Belt fans will give an honest and serious response ranking ten schools. The rest will rank five or less schools and/or make fun of the idea of ranking ten schools, and/or make fun of the thought of actually including Kennesaw, Jax, Lamar, and Valdosta.

I agree that most of the board would make fun of the inclusion of such schools in a poll. That is not a problem since we make fun of everybody. Remember, this thread was begun with a poll about Lamar in the SBC.

There's a reason people will make fun of it Jag and I mean no disrespect to you, but it's a ridiculous notion. Ten schools? Ten? Why would we possibly need to think about ten schools? If we have to go beyond our top five choices we are in big trouble. Furthermore, I guarantee you neither one of Kennesaw State or Valdosta will be FBS in the next 25 years.
And yes, this thread was begun about Lamar in the SBC, it was also started by a non-Sun Belt member and the results of this poll are indicative of how we feel about programs like Lamar and Jax State would probably result in similar numbers, Valdosta and Kennesaw don't even deserve a poll, I'd be willing to bet that you are literally the only SBC fan that has either one of them even remotely on your radar for expansion.

They would end up being no votes. I was just suggesting a top ten to avoid the argument to who the top five of six would be in the poll.
My top five at the moment would be
Ga State
App State
Texas San Antonio
UNC Charlotte
Ga Southern
How do you petition to the add that type of poll?
