Bootleg Barbecue, Marks Feed Store, Reds Comfort Foods & Big Mommas Soul Food Kitchen in Louisville Ky....For the record I love Carolina Barbecue because I was raised on it in Jacksonville North Carolina....Four pig pickins a year in my dads backyard with his famous sauce.... unbeatable. We would also fill his little Chevy S10 to the brim with fresh oysters......Im talking 500lbs + of this stuff!

My favorite is County Line in Austin & San Antonio. All-you-can-eat big, thick beef ribs (not weeny little pork ribs).

I like the Austin location on the lake.

I went to a Cuse v Memphis game and I had heard great things about Dinosour BBQ, but I didn't get to go. I will definately check it out, and I think its based on Memphis BBQ.

In Memphis, I love Central BBQ (great place to go before/after a game) and Cozy Corner is my favorite sliced pork sandwhich in memphis. I also like the sausage and cheese plate at the Rendezvous.

PS. If Famous Daves is the best BBQ you have, then you are in for a real treat when you come to Memphis. Famouse Daves is like getting McDonalds at a gourmet burger joint.

St. Johns/NYC-Fette Sau in Williamsburg Brooklyn. I have southern friends who swear by this BBQ. I love it and the southern boys say its one of the best BBQ joints in the country period.

Lots of really good beers and bourbons as well. Best BBQ in northeast easily.

There is no good barbecue in Cincinnati.

Montgomery Inn is not barbecue. It is just a place that steams some ribs and slathers them in sauce. I will admit the sauce is pretty good though.

They have great BBQ nachos as well. Love going to a game and getting them while watching the Redbirds.

Yes, and that is Neely's I believe. For the original Neely's , try Interstate BBQ.

We all know all the good popular places in Memphis......

Central
BBQ Shop
Neely's
Interstate
Corkey's
Rendezvous
Germantown Commissary
Leornards
Gridleys
PigNWhistle
Tops
Marlowes
Brads
Three Little Pigs
Reese's
Tom's
Bryant's
Mr. P I G
Cozy Corner
A & R
Moma's

But, I want to recommend another gem that doesn't get as much publicity as some of these others..........

FAT LARRY'S......in Bartlett , TN. Some of the best brisket I've ever had. Cut it with a fork, tender. And, smoked fabulously.

We're down to 50 responses to this thread now and not a single San Diegan. We can tell you where to get the best sushi though - I recommend Rappongi.

This is the spot for BBQ in the Orlando area (none really close to UCF though). 4 Rivers It's Texas-style, and now has 3 locations (every one of them has a line at prime-dining times). I personally love many of the Memphis joints, so very happy to see them coming along to the Big East!! 04-cheers

SDSU will definitely be in last place in this department. If you guys do make the trip out here and just have to have BBQ, Phil's BBQ will probably be the best you can get.

Also, if you ever find yourself in St. Louis (perhaps to watch your basketball team take on the Atlantic 10's SLU Billikens), you must go eat at Pappy's BBQ near the SLU campus. That place has won BBQ awards at festivals in Memphis, for God's sake.

I don't know about that. There's not many BBQ places in Connecticut. There's great Italian food, but very little BBQ or Mexican. 03-weeping

Buyer beware to any place that covers their meat in sauce. Good barbecue needs no sauce.

If I ever make it back to SD again (hope so, it's beautiful), I think I'll look for other food besides BBQ.

I agree with this, but I have found a few places that cover their meat in sauce but the meat itself is still tender, juicy, and the natural flavors come through.

By the way, at some places in Texas (especially in Lockhart), they will be offended if you ask for sauce. They will also likely be offended if you ask for utensils.
