Good Riddance!
Just when I thought surely he couldn't show any more lack of sense, Wrong Waters strikes again.
Retiring Sun Belt commissioner Wright Waters told ESPN.com Thursday night that he was told that the sixth player isn't involved in the play. But when watching the video you can see that no one is essentially involved in the play as Payton takes the inbound pass and dribbles through traffic before getting to the rim.
"This probably happens more than we realize," Waters said. "Coaches are on the court, too. If the official had stopped it then it upsets the flow of the final seconds of the game. But we wish it wouldn't have happened."
The Cajuns deserved the win and it has finally caused our admin to make a coaching change so it's not sour grapes on my part. However this quote reeks of incompetence, what kind of an idiot do we have representing our conference. He should have been pushed aside after the whole fiasco a few years ago when he screwed up the back up invites to the bowl games. Wrong Waters, don't let the door hit you on the way out!

RE: Good Riddance!
wow, is all i can say too!
WW says coaches are on the floor to... you don't have to account for a coach because he is not going to catch the ball or take a shot.
It doesn't matter that the 6th man "wasn't involved" in the play, somebody had to account for him, taking the main focus off the 5 guys that are supposed to be on the court.
Freakin WW is at it again. Just go ahead and step down...please.

So, does this mean that moving forward any team can place a "decoy" on the court and as long as it appears that no one is accounting for the decoy there will be no stoppage of play or detrimental action?
Nice precedent there WW. All SBC coaches better find that quote and be ready to present it to the refs after they've deployed their decoy.

Hey Wrong Waters: How about the fact that UL had 6 guys on 5 when playing defense as well.
And who do you label as the 6th guy.
The 6th guy may have been the one that hit the
winning basket.
Please Mr. Waters go to straight to the home now, do not pass go, and do not collect 200 dollars, go straight to the home.
Maybe. Waterboy if you had been doing your job the SBC, CUSA, MWC and WAC could
have all worked out a plan to reshuffle the teams into 3 conferences
one southeast, one southwest and one west.
Then with the MAC you would have 4 non aq conferences.
Have the BCS elevate 2 bowls to BCS levels, Chick Filet and Cotton
and have 2 slots allocated for the 4 non aq's
Now go to the home waterboy

This is why Wright Waters is retiring. He is not a player in any of the conference realignment discussions. He just wanted to be the big fish in a small pond.

Sad effort on WW's part. I would expect something more along the lines of "it is unfortunate that this breakdown of officiating occured. We expect more from the officials we assign to our games and I will immediately contact our commisioner of officials to ensure that this sort of mistake does not happen again. This level of performance from our officials is unacceptable."

The fact that it happened and no one caught it was embarrassing enough. Now this comment by the guy who is supposed to be the one to take charge and have a say in the punishment.
God bless, the Sun Belt sucks and by no fault of any of the teams. Can our same members create a new conference just to kick this guy to the curb before he retires?
Pathetic.

Waters is a laughing stock on all sports talk shows around
the nation. What a stupid statement he made.

RE: Good Riddance!
Once upon a time at a conference tournament I asked ww if he were bothered by the officials making late questionable calls that decided the game... He replied " why no....I do not believe these officials did anything other than a superior job calling the end of the game.
Of course this is what he would say. He ALMOST never had an original thought in his life.
His first was when he suspended coaches after ejections. While there might be an argument in some sports the very idea is crazy in baseball.
My point is he should have never been in charge. Any good he did was overshadowed by his mamby pamby decisions.
