I am honestly asking this when I say "is that all?"
GSU's head coach makes 400K including the help from the boosters.
I'm not bragging, but i'm surprised that we are even in the same ballpark because our athletic budgets are worlds apart.
Arkansas State law prohibits us from paying state employees more then 120K a year I believe in public funds. Because of that almost all of our money has to come from private donations, and we just dont have as many of those kinds of boosters.
Its an archaic law, and it really does hurt us.
That's terrible. If you guys can't find a way to pay more for your head coach, you will continue to find yourself in this situation everytime you taste success. ASU will have a hard time creating a dynasty under these conditions.
We're all in this position, big salaries or not. It's cool that Hud is gonna stay with the Cajuns another year. But the Sun Belt needs to be hiring coaches with ambition. I hope Freeze is the start of a trend for the Sun Belt.
If Houston, Tulsa, and Southern Miss can't keep coaches who are successful, we can only hope that our coaches get hired away too!
I respectfully disagree. Boise and TCU have been able to keep their coaches from the big programs, because Peterson and Patterson are paid very well, and love their universities. Those two have grown their programs into better conferences. I think it's about finding great coaches and finding away to keep them. At North Texas we think the world of Coach McCarney. If coach McCarney goes on a streak and wins for North Texas, I believe our university will find a way to make sure, he doesn't leave because of a better paycheck.
I'll never hope a successful UNT coach get hired away from us.

I see you're not at peace with North Texas' place in the world of college football.
Good for you. Hope you never lose a coach to a bigger program because UNT can pay to keep him. It sucks.

TCU had to lose Fran first. Boise had to lose Koetter and Hawkins first.

you're joking right?
what is unique about denton that would keep him there? applebee's....chilis???
what makes denton different than richardson or plano or any other cookie cutter town in the metroplex?
if the money comes he'll be gone faster than speedy gonzalez. and that is no poor reflection on unt or the coach.
it's the nature of the business and it is a business.
the same will happen to ANY SCHOOL IN THE SUN BELT.
do you do watercolors of puppies and kittens play fighting in a field of daisies under a rainbow?
