Last year was our 101st year of football....

I just glanced at wikipedia. I believe the figure I pulled was the 64th consecutive year.

South won 20-10. Had a ton of miscues and lack of execution. West Alabama didn't even complete a pass until the second half, but our mistakes kept them in it.

I'm not saying you are wrong. I don't know all of Troy's history, but it seems I do recall that Troy had a period where no football was played. I pulled the 64 number from this in the Wikipedia article (2010-1946 = 64):

"Troy University has fielded a football team continuously since 1946."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Trojans

EDIT:
This was on the football page:

"Troy University has fielded a football team continuously since 1946. Prior to that year, the team was fielded with only a few interruptions from 1909 to 1942. Eight years were skipped due to lack of participation and later World War I from 1913–1920, while the Wall Street Crash of 1929 kept the team from playing that year. Having moved up from Division I-AA, the team has competed in the NCAA's Division I since 2001."

RE: South football on ESPN3 tonight
We started football in 1909. There was a period of maybe 4 years or so that we didn't have a team because most of the university was fighting in WWII.

Troy didn't play football from 1943-1945 because of World War II. In fact, the NCAA suspended intercollegiate football those three years nationwide, so Troy wasn't the only team not to play those years. No one else did either.

Ugly, ugly, ugly. Never seen the Jags so sloppy...ever.

Other than that, I loved seeing the SBC logo on the field, Jags fans have waited for sooooo long.

South is in for a rude awakening when it comes to Div I FBS play. The reason that South did not execute well last night is because the defense for WA did not allow you execute well. That is what happens when you play better teams, it is more diffacult to execute. It was the first game, so there is a little bit of an excuse, but the way all the Jag fans were talking on here, i really felt it was going to be a 54-3 game.

Your QB looks like he could be a decent competitor at the DII level. But 2/3 of the passes he threw last night will be picked by NCSt.

The running backs were pretty tough, that was about the only thing i was impressed with last night.

South was lucky the QB for UWA couldnt do anything but the read option (and not very good at that). If he had a decent arm he would have opened the defense up ALOT and would have gotten a lot more yards.

There were also some decent licks, especially on the UWA QB on the 3rd down in 2nd half where he tried (again) to take off and run.

Congratulations on your 18th win. They are about to become a lot harder to come by.

btw, SC>NCSt. There is no way to compare Troy's game with SC to USA's game with NCSt in a few weeks. Yeah, we did horrible that day, but we came back and still won (tied, whatever) the conference, something that South will not taste for years to come.

Completely disagree. I don't think they had one single tackle for loss all night. Check that, they had one sack when our QB ran into the defender. Whereas, I'd guess we had almost as many tackles for loss as they did positive yardage plays. Plus, our top two RBs didn't play a snap in the first half. Second half, we pretty much moved the ball at will. The passing game did struggle a bit, and our QB looked off. No explanation or excuses there. Hopefully it was first game issues. We'll find out soon enough.

Ugly, ugly game. We didn't execute all night. Dumb penalties, bad turnovers, bad clock management. We have a long way to go. And I think we all know that.
