History says yes. What say you?

What history? Blue Raiders' failure to live up to expectations last year?

We did fail to live up to expectations last year and we still beat your best team ever. 03-lmfao

FAU was pretty terrible last year and we beat FIU's best team ever.

Can FIU win the conference this year? Sure. I just don't think they are as good (or that their season last year was as impressive) as their fans like to believe.

The Troy team that lost to FIU was a very different team than the one that beat FAU soundly. Without going into detail several things changed in about a two week period. FAU and Ohio should confirm that.

This illustrates my point. The margin from top to bottom of this league is very slim which is what makes it so fun.

My team beat MTSU and FAU pretty badly last year and had the lead against both FIU and Troy (on the road) with under two minutes left in the game.

FIU is considered a "favorite" just because someone has to make a list. There is no real favorite this year if you study conference history.

The one thing about the 'Belt is the parity. Any given Saturday is an apt term for this confrence.

The target on the back is a difficult thing if your not used to it. FAU wasnt and they got cocky and backed into a bowl game in 2008 and have struggled since.

We'll see if Cristobal can keep his boys grounded, but I dont think he will. The hype is already being heaped on and if FIU goes in believeing that they will win because they SHOULD, it could get ugly.

Is this the same Hemi Man who came on this board every week after a conference victory by FIU and said we haven't proven anything. Well, every week until we got to Troy, Alabama. I can't recall seeing any more of those post from you after that. 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao 668 yds - 9.7 avg gain per play, 448 on the ground for 8.3 yds per carry. You call that sneaking up on you, JJ take on it was a little different, "FIU came in here and kicked our [butts], point blank.”

Listen, Z and CajunT have already claimed the Spring games title as well as the 2011 attendance title. So the only title left is the 2011 conference title and that is what my team is focused on. So continue you preseason spin, it worked out well last season as well. 04-cheers

This is all preseason speculation, none of us know exactly how the season will end. But when a team beats 6 of 8 conference opponents and returns significant numbers of starters, it is not too far fetched to EXPECT that they SHOULD do well. To be clear, I am not one of those fans that believe my team is improving and everyone else's team is the same as last season or regressing.

C'mon guys, it's freaking FIU! All of that Miami hype and no conference of bowl championships to show for it! 05-stirthepot

If you will look back I told everyone MT would flop and FIU was the one to watch. Spin it however you choose but FIU beat Troy soundly. So did a few other teams last year. FIU is a talented team but we will see how your team responds to wearing the target. I will be looking for you in Miami. Maybe your fans will actually go inside the stadium this year.

And you guys thought FAU fans were bad after 2007.

Kitties are taking delusions of grandeur to a whole new level.

Be careful Kitties, I speak from experience. Its a big letdown if you build up your team to the level that yoiu are and it falls apart.

When all other reasoning fails, fall back to the good old "ur fans don't go to games" attendance smack. 03-zzz03-zzz "Fans not being in the stands" worked out well for us last season, so the boys shouldn't have a problem with it this year.

all this talk after a 6-6 season and 1 Co-championship, hmmm. I'd hate to see how FIU fans act when they actually do something impressive.

BTW, the "provocative" headline of this thread notwithstanding, I do agree with a ton of fans of all schools here that there is a lot of parity in this league, and all this talk about pre season this or that is just that...talk before actually playing a season.

Now, does FIU return the vast majority of the starters and players with significant playing time from last season Sun Belt Co-championship team? Yes. Is this good or bad? We will see.

I'm just baffled by all the talk about our fans. I would like to see anywhere on this site where an FIU fan said anything that could be considered over the top. If you think that coming on here and defending the fact that we think we will have a good year is over the top, then you guys are clearly more sensitive than I expected. As for the fau fans comments, as my friend MTPiKapp would say...meh.

I think Troy wins the conference, Arkansas State a close 2nd, with FIU coming in 3rd. So, no. I don't call coming in 3rd place in the conference "falling on their face". Screw history. JMHO.
