Mark Dayton wants to shut down the MN state government
For those of you not in the loop:

Minnesota does its budget every two years, the last budget passed was about 28 Billion Dollars. For the first time in forever the Republicans hold a majority in both houses but lost the governorship because of a third party siphoning votes.

In an effort to compromise the GOP drafted a budget which is 32 Billion (12% increase)...

Dayton says thats not enough

So the GOP decided to make his priority, their priority by funding education to the level he promised in his campaign. The took the money from other parts of the budget.

Dayton says thats not enough

Now the GOP has taken out all tax relief, basically giving up something they had been fighting for

Dayton says thats not enough...

What is enough? Why 2 Billion more and more taxes... 12% grown in Government is not enough for a man who left a budget meeting to go walk his dog.

What options does the legislature have? Can they over ride? Or is MN in a stalemate?

None, the GOP does not have enough of a majority to override the veto and Dayton's astroturf / awful coverage by the major news is winning the publicity battle.

I was talking to a parent at my kids school who thought the GOP budget was cutting education..... I just rolled my eyes..

I am sure it is despite what you claim. That is the Republican platform. Destroy education and have an uneducated and cheap labor force.

Please explain how?

Minnesota's population is 5 million that means the GOP budget is spending 7K per citizen!

Minnesota is the 6th highest taxed state in the nation straight up and 8th per capita by income.

Minnesota has the 7th highest sales tax in the nation..

So please tell me what Pawlenty did that makes a 12% increase "barbaric" (Dayton's words) but makes a 16% increase acceptable?
