Two tours of duty in Iraq? No problem. US Drug War? K.I.A.
A Marine serves two tours in Iraq. Comes home and does hard labor to feed his family in a mine. But he's no match for a SWAT team doing a drug raid on his house. Incidentally, he had no drugs. But now his house has 71 SWAT bullets as new decorations.
Most galling of all ... SWAT kept paramedics from working on him for over an hour.
The entire SWAT team should be charged with manslaughter, bare minimum.

Anyone want to bet that NOTHING will be done to any of these thugs? They already have concocted a story and will do their little investigation. Most likely someone may get fired...but...no one will be charged with anything and this family will live on without their hero. Another casualty of a useless drug war. It is not a war against drugs. It is a war against US citizens.

To be clear, I have been consistent in my abhoration of the militarization of the American police force. So if this (initially) strikes you as an injustice and as a tragedy, as it does me, you need to realize that the way to stop this from happening is to keep these no-knock, SWAT warrants from being issued. SWAT teams are, IMO, a way to get around the injunction to never use the American military against the American people.
But I have to say, police procedure is very clear on this sort of thing--if you point a gun at police or a third party, the procedure requires that you shoot.
The police execute a search warrant on a suspected home invader's residence and find him with an assault rifle pointed at them. What are they supposed to do, take rounds in the chest?
And the other thing is this--the police entering cannot see if the safety is on, or if it is a semi-automatic or a fully automatic weapon. They have no idea of anything. They see the rifle pointed at them and they will shoot.
I understand that in many ways the problem isn't the police's response to a gun. It's that the whole concept behind the no-knock entry FORCES the innocent party to point that gun due to the confusion the police cause.
If the cops just knocked and said, "Police, We have a search warrant....", maybe this tragedy wouldn't have occurred.
I think the real crime here is probably the lack of immediate medical attention. That is were this case will swing in civil court.

My radar is up on this one. Dirty cops. No way they unload 70 rounds into a guy and find nothing. This was a heist boys and the robbers had badges. How many guys had to execute this guy. 30 rounds in a mag right. That's at least three shooters. No paramedics? This guy was a player and 3 families are putting their kid's through college with dirty money.

Really jumped the shark on that one.
It's bad, it's a tragedy, they should be prosecuted, but to go all "dirty cops heist" is a stretch. Did you watch Training Day last night or something?

I never thought of it in that light. The Feds use the same military type weapons. At Waco, didn't the Feds use some sort of military tank, which was met with a fire that killed everyone?

There seems to be seeing more and more stories where the cops shoot first and ask questions later. i wonder if they're being overly trained on not taking any chances.....

Unfortunately a lot of "obsolete" military hardware is given to police departments, where it becomes "cutting-edge" when used against the American public.
Yes, tanks and armored cars are more and more common with big city departments. I think the Waco tank might have been ATF though?
Strangely enough, Minneapolis just got rid of one truly obsolete armored car and purchased 5 horses, which are better for crowd control and are less intimidating in the Fourth of July Parade.

After seeing that video I don't think it's a heist. This was more along the lines of bumbling idiots. How do you just knock a door down and start firing and for 70 rounds to find their target. How many bullets are firing a second? What a tragedy.
btw... for the jump the shark comment. Ya don't think some guy's behind the badge wouldn't steal from a drug dealer? That was definetly a possibility.
