RE: 25 Best Damn Bands In The Land
Am I missing Troy on the list or is it just that far off??? If you're talking about bands from a music person's viewpoint, I might...might go with UNT. I should mention that UNT's marching band is made up only of freshmen and sophomores. Once the music majors server their 2 years of marching band, they are done. Or at least that's how it was when I was in school. They do have one of the best music schools in the country and they are very clean and balanced. However, that does not necessarily mean "best" marching band. Troy wins that in my book, hands down. They are entertaining and loud as heck. I was at the Troy LSU game (pulling hard for Troy) and Troy absolutely blew LSU out of the water. I've been trying to find a way to see the full band again since then, but haven't yet.

If you think Troy is the best band in the conference hands down, you've never seen the Band of Blue's full show. The two are easily the best two in the conference, but picking the better of the two probably comes down to year to year or even what you're looking for in a marching band. I've personally seen the Band of Blue outperform several of the bands on that list and will outperform Purdue's band this year as well.

Middle Tennessee's band is commonly picked as one of the best in the conference, that's not debatable and the debate usually comes down to Troy and Middle Tennessee, they are the largest and loudest bands in the conference. I couldn't care less if some Bleacher Report writer thinks so or not, I wouldn't be surprised if North Texas's band is the only Sun Belt band he's seen.

This is true. It usually would come down to year to year. But also realize that largeness doesn't not always equate loudness. If their not in tune or hitting the notes at the same time, it will actually be less loud. I won't go into the physics of it all. I remember many times where we'd take a small 100 man pep band to these sunbelt venues, and people would complain asking why their 230+ piece bands weren't as loud or as good as our small 100 piece band.

A good point, but both Troy and MT have large bands, that are talented and play well together.

Yeah, I've never seen MT live, but I've watched videos. I still believe Troy's is the best.

The two bands are the class of the conference. I doubt you'll find too many fans of either school who don't think there's is the best and I doubt you'll find too many fans from the rest of the conference that have A) seen both bands and/or B) care enough to comment.

I think that not putting North Texas in the top tier is a little arrogant, if not ignorant as well. The UNT band isn't the best at the actual marching, but most people in this thread are talking about the music part of it anyway....
Plus, I don't care all that much, so this one post is going to be all I can muster.

Typical Bleacher Report garbage! To leave Troy - which I have personally witnessed embarrass several of the BR-ranked bands in that report in their own stadiums, including Georgia, LSU, Ga. Tech and others - off that loist is a disgrace to the BR's sense of taste.
Worse, some of those bands are not good at all.

RE: 25 Best Damn Bands In The Land
Best at what. Best at entertaining, best musicians, best sound, etc. I have little doubt that NT has the best musicians and technically the best music quality. However, as far as entertaining the fan base, enthusiasm, presentation, etc.; than I believe there are several schools that are currently better than NT. For whatever reason, NT too often plays like they are in at a concert competition. Team support and fan entertainment take a back seat to the band demonstrating their musical ability. Unfortunately for the NT band, most fans favor loudness, music selections, and enthusiasm over technical ability.
IMO NT would kill the rest of the Belt in a high school like concert competition; but frankly who cares. A football stadium is not a venue for judging music quality even if that is your intent. Spirit and volume will trump talent ever time assuming the band is at least musically competent. I am not saying that NT is not a good football band, they are. There are a lot of good bands in the Belt, and a few that most fans would judge better than NT at a football game.
As an aside, why all the noise about the "Bleacher Report". It is someone's or some group's opinion just like any other ranking list. I doubt he listened to all football bands but people vote all the time in football polls who haven't seen many of the team actually play. I doubt anyone takes the "Bleacher Report" seriously, but they do stir up some good debates.
