Ok to get back on topic,I hope Gates plays and plays well, but I hope Mick doesnt forget about biggie IMO he has earned some minutes.Cats need a win tonight and I actually think it need to be somewhat convincing so they can regain a little attitude and swagger.

So attendance is up about 300 per game over last season.

Nice. Things are looking up.

I'd hope beating depaul is not cause for regaining attitude and swagger.

I agree mick should throw biggie in if for no other reason then to be big.

You can't teach that,

Does that mean he should throw Eddie Tyree in there if for no other reason than to be small? 02-13-banana

Especially with St. John's coming to town this weekend looking for revenge. The loser of that game takes a huge hit for an at-large bid. Mick really needs bust ass in practice the rest of the week, even if they beat DePaul by 20. You have to squash any overconfidence from beating SJU at their place.

nope, mick should suit up for that. but biggie makes it hard to shoot over and eats space. at the very least he can foul. so I say it's a good idea to occasionally swap this02-13-banana with this

From Dan Hoard: Yancy Gates is in uniform and going thru warmups. Mick Cronin told me he won't start, but wouldn't say if he'll play.

Mick, just say he's back and move on. Really? Have you not made up your mind whether he's gonna play or not by now?

I hope you don't have to take that walk of shame down the sideline telling gates to check in after they fall behind. That would cancel out any positive that came from the suspension.

"Gates might play".

And then again, he might not. He could have stayed home.

RE: Gates might play tomorrow at DePaul
Mick is going about this all wrong with Yancy. Yancy is a lazy, apathetic, student-athlete who literally needs to have his ass kicked. Mick needed to suspend him for more than 1 game. He needed to suspend him for however long he thought it took Gates to realize how far he's away from Mick's expectations. Make him run during practice away from the team. Make him run at 6am. Make him run at 10pm and then see how committed he is to playing basketball. If Yancy can't stomach being punished, then just let him walk. This program is sleep-walking and I don't really see the benefit of having Yancy here with his pathetic, half-hearted performance that he showed last night. He simply doesn't get it.

But then again, maybe Mick's expectations are lower than ours.

just like with football....win and the people will come. we didn't draw d pre-Huggins either.......winning has a way of filling your arena/stadium. we are moving in the right direction. and I still say Mick's rebuilding job he inherited (given the state of the program and conference we play in) was one of the tougher one's in the nation...he's done a decent job. Here's to making the ncaa this year!

Well, one of the more interesting developments in last night's game was Yancy's uninspired performance. I was honestly expecting him to bring it last night, and I was shocked at what little he contributed.

Do you know how many guys almost quit because of Huggins? He was one of the hardest hard-asses out there, pushed the buttons of some of those players, and they ended up becoming some pretty darn good players. Steve Logan comes to mind, IIRC. Donald Little too.

Look, if Yancy wants to be lazy, I'd rather him being lazy watching the UC game on his couch.

RE: Gates might play tomorrow at DePaul
Thomas played very well against DePaul, second straight pretty good game from him. Comes after being sent to the bench and seeing his minutes decrease dramatically. Gates needs the same treatment. Sit his lazy ass on the bench and let him see his basketball life fly before him.

They showed one replay of Gates on defense explaining how he is a liability on the defensive side on TV. They pointed out how he stands straight up, locks his knees, playes on his heels, doesn't move his feet, and ends up late to the spot and fouling the offensive player. Why can't our coaching staff get him to understand what was shown of him on that one replay.

As much as I hate Kenny Frease from Xavier and I know Gates hates him, I wish Gates would watch film on that guy on the offensive end as he never stops moving. He is always setting picks, rolling, and posting up. If I watch Gates stand behind a defender on the offensive end again I am going to puke.

Yeah, maybe Micky was right when he said in the Pitt postgame that our offense flows better without Yancy.
