3 in a row will translate into Championships, sorry MTSU and Troy but a new towel waving sheriff is on his way to kick a$$. 05-mafia

2-22 since joining FBS and 2-14 in SBC play, but a few recruiting services like your recruits and all the sudden you're the "new sheriff"?

To call recruiting rankings, especially outside the top 10 classes, imprecise would be generous.

Example: In 2010 Rivals had WKU's class ranked 1st in the conference, but Scout had WKU's class ranked last in the conference and 119th in the country.

Example: Look at 2010 conference co-champion FIU's class rankings in the last five years

2006: Scout 3rd Rivals 4th
2007: Scout 4th Rivals 3rd
2008: Scout 5th Rivals 4th
2009: Scout 4th Rivals 2nd
2010: Scout 2nd Rivals 3rd

Not a single top class by either service and only one 2nd place from each and yet they were co-champions and beat Troy this year.

Celebrate your top rated classes all you want, I guess you need something to get excited about...07-coffee3

Because MTSU whipped them 27-26? What does 'they will another' mean anyway?

WKU went 2-6 in conference this past year, but lost 2 of those league games by only 1 point... The only teams that beat them by more than one score were Troy and North Texas. WKU could have easily finished 4-4 in the league, and with a few bounces could have finished 6-2. WKU is not going to just be a doormat anymore.

Please save the "with a few bounces" talk. WKU has not put anything resembling a winning product on the field for three full seasons now. To be clear, I have long said that WKU is too good of an overall program to let their football stay in the cellar for long, but to start making room for championship banners based on recruiting rankings is a common pitfall. All of our recruiting across the board is reasonably close to one another, the recruiting services can be fun, but they are not much more than that and they are certainly not any kind of guarantee of future success.

are you the new sheriff in town???

save the few bounces talk....why???

it's a message board. for a team that didn't resemble a winning product they gave your bowl bound squad all they wanted. and if our guy doesn't fumble on the one foot line we beat you going away. that game would have been over.

i do not believe there is any 'bonafide solid indicator' for future success from signing classes.

but we're all rated by the same two groups. it's the off season. just because wku has good ratings this year are our fans not allowed to be happy about it.

if your class had the same ratings are you saying that none of your fans would crow about it? i'm not asking if you would.

your fans say a player we got is no good since he was no longer coming to you. but you wanted him enough to offer.

this is all just off season water cooler talk. not asking w.w. to mail us any trophies.

I was replying to the "They will another 'excellent' season in 2011" comment, not their recruiting rankings as a measure of a season. I still don't know what this statement means, or what word is missing. But if the poster calls out WKU in that way, then I am free to point out that his team only beat this same WKU team by 1 point, in a game that WKU had won...

Dahbeed,

You know I respect you a great deal. You speak your mind and usually your "takes" are pretty accurate. That said, I see nothing wrong with celebrating recruiting success, we all certainly celebrate when we land a big commit, but I just learned long ago not to get caught up in class rankings. Our 2008 class was tops in the conference and if memory serves ranked somewhere in the 60's overall and now three seasons later at least four graduated JUCOS, a couple of notable dismissals(Eldred King, Travis Lilenthal) a few transfers(Burnette, Carson) a few career ending injuries, at least one three star DT transfer who just decided to quit football altogether one day and a few guys that I have no idea what happened to and 13 players from that class are no longer with the team. Celebrating recruiting is one thing, posting things like "the writings on the wall" "there's a new sheriff in town" and "3 in a row will translate into Championships" is another thing entirely, but then the guys making these posts are members who's total post count total in the dozens, so I don't expect them to be around to eat crow if these classes don't "translate into Championships".

Fair enough, but it's not like our season was all that special either. Had that game gone the other way, WKU's season would have been slighly less disappointing and ours would have been slightly more disappointing, but it wouldn't have turned their season into anything to be overly proud of, nor would it have turned ours into a complete disaster.

would be to see what other teams are recruiting them.
WKU is getting some good recruits.
FIU is also.

i'm not disagreeing with you. i said i don't put a lot of stock into 'em. those guys just came across as some young newbs that found one thing we can lay a claim to fame on.

i can't hate on 'em for that. i put zero stock in our hoops recruiting class that has been built up until i see them 'in uniform' in 'a game'.

i have no idear how great this football class will be but i know that willie played a lot of true freshmen last year that really contributed. he did that with a short recruiting period under his belt.

i'm a firm believer in the jimmies and joes vs. the x's and o's. i think willie is bringing in some flarda talent in this place and in a couple years we should be very competitive.

i have to believe this class is better than last year's just because he had longer to recruit it. and last year's class wasn't bad.

Just another trapping of recruiting.

For starters, the info on these kids profiles aren't always accurate. Kids can exaggerate the interest they're getting from other schools and in some cases they've had offers listed on their profiles that turned out to never exist. I've seen this with kids we've recruited who claimed to have offers from other schools that they didn't actually have and kids who have claimed to have an offer from us and never did.

Beyond that, it still doesn't mean that much. One of Stockstill's predecessor's favorite things to talk about was who we "beat" for a lot of his recruits. After the 8-3 season in 2001, he only once won more than 4 games.

Again, recruiting is fun to talk about, but it's little more than that. The futher down you get in the overall rankings, there's really marginal differences in larger and larger groups or teams. In the top 25 classes, there's a marginal difference within 5 spots. Outside of the top 25 that expands more to 7-10, beyond the top 50 classes the difference within 10 classes is minimal, so the difference between the #1 class and the number #15 class is pretty sizable. The difference between the #81 and #95 is nowhere near the same.

I'll agree with most of what you said, most notably getting "flarda talent" we have more players from Florida than any other state.

Now in regards to your last statement. I would definitely tend to agree with you, but it should be noted that Stockstill came in to his first class behind the eight ball and only signed like 13 players in the class, but among them were Phillip Tanner, Desmond Gee and Danny Carmichael and I'd put those three up against any three from any class since. A year later Stock recruited a full class, most notably including Dwight Dasher, but I'd say the big three out of that class would be Rod Isaac, Dwight Smith and Jeremy Kellem with a nod to Kevin Brown. We definitely got a little more top end out of 2007 and more total contribution, but there was also more dead weight and kids that didn't pan out.

RE: FB: Way Tio Go WKU !
I would liken WKU's football situation as similar to Denver's in basketball. Denver is a basketball team that has not done much the last couple of years but has been young. This year Denver reached a tipping point where all of those young guys were upperclassmen all of the sudden and what do you know, Denver has a good basketball team.

By my count (give or take) including redshirts and walk ons, WKU has 45 freshmen that will become sophmores or redshirt freshmen in 2011. WKU has 27 sophmores that will become juniors, and 18 juniors that will become seniors.

That would mean that in 2012 and 2013 WKU will have a heck of a lot of underclassmen becoming upperclassmen.

Not only that, but WKU has had nice recruiting classes the last couple of years. The results have not been there because A) those recruiting classes were very young and B) a lot of those players have redshirted.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that there is a new sheriff in town but I do expect dramatic improvement in WKU's win loss % over the next two to three years.

WKU going to a bowl game by 2013 is not unrealistic at all.

In 2006-07 WKU / David Elson took a long term, slow bake strategy of redshirting everybody and not going after transfers and Jucos.

Elson may not have been the right fit to be our head coach, but it would be hard to argue that in the short term this strategy was a disaster.

We shall see if it pays off in the long term.

WKU is up to 11 verbals from rivals three stars.

Boise St. has 12 but that doesn't mean anything.

RE: FB: Way Tio Go WKU !
Quote:The kid's offer was pulled as soon as he scheduled his visit to Western. That's a fact.

Let me get this straight:

MT offered based on talent level
Kid verballed to MT
WKU showed interest
Kid bailed on MT
Kid committed to WKU 04-cheers

Sounds like MT staff tried to save face once they found out he wanted to go to WKU. 03-lmfao
