Troy to announce stadium expansion in spring...
Troy chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. said after the game that an announcement is planned for the spring of 2011 on the next facility update, which would be to enclose the open end zone of Veterans Stadium with a football building. The building is also expected to have suites available for sale.

“We always have a plan in motion,” Hawkins said. “Our next step in athletics in terms of our football program is to close in the north end zone and give our football program and athletics department the offices that they deserve.”

Hawkins said the department is working on advancing the schedule. The next big home games come in 2012 when Mississippi State and Navy come to Troy.

“It’s our intent to continue to stepping up,” Hawkins said after Troy’s win. “This program has never stepped back, and tonight’s a good indication.”

I don't think it's seats as much as it is suites. It's adding a fieldhouse enclosure like you'd see at Southern Miss or Arkansas. That kind of thing.

So I guess it's going to be about like the kind of building Arkansas State has? Congrats on the upgrade, I bet it will look nice.

If you do that then a Troy fan is going to go in to the difference in population and student body sizes in our two very different situations. In the end we both draw average to above average attendance every year for many of the same reasons.

True Home Games:

MTSU 19,024
Troy 18,947

A difference of 77 fans per game. That's a difference of less than 0.5%. Give me a break. The extra home game you have if you have six, is not an attendance issue, thats you having an extra game. If you wanna argue having an extra home game is good, I wont argue with you. It's great. But don't argue average attendance when it's a difference of 77 people, which could be credited to inflation. I bet you didn't even realize it was that close.

There weren't 30,000 at the New Orleans Bowl. They heavily exagerrated on that one. But people wanna put all this faith into "reported attendance."

EDIT: and for the record, I really don't give two dumps about attendance ***** battles. I just like to give people the facts when they don't have them. Like BTH said, we're all average. Especially in comparison to schools who draw 80,000+. You're 77 fans at <0.5% are negligible, they mean nothing. Though again, I will say it's nice to have that extra 20,000 fans for having an extra home game, but those are two different issues.

Troy should have a 1.2 multiplier adjusting their attendance just for being in Pike County. Not the easiest place in the world to draw fans.

Yes, I know it was that close, and this year it isn't a big difference. In previous posts this post-season you (I assume it was you) harped about how 2,000 fans per game (last season's approx. delta) wasn't all that big. And I showed you how it was. In a marketing professional's mind, 1 person could be all that it takes. If you hook 1 of those 77 or 2,000 people then you have a lifelong consumer who will spend thousands of dollars on the program. The more you bring in, the more you will hook. Attendance is a big issue, even if the difference is almost nothing.

Also, an extra game IS a big deal. We hosted over 19,000 more people than Troy did this season. I know they all weren't unique visitors, but there were thousands of unique visitors in that 1 extra game (whichever one you pick).

The extra game IS a big deal. I've said that. I think Troy has six in 2012. So I definitely agree with you. I kind of agree with the "hooking" one or two fans, but it's still a very small percentage, so I'm on the fence about that. What I will say in regards to this year, is those 77 fans truly are negligible when you stop to realize that attendance figures are no where near exact. Inflation plays a big part. If we had a magic satellite attendance counter, it could show that Troy averaged 1,000 more or that MTSU averaged 3,000 more. That's the main reason why I believe it's negligible.

The New Orleans Bowl reported 30,000 in attendance. There were 12,000 tops. Ohio brought 2,000 at the most. I've seen where FIU reported 16,000 and only 5,000 were there, tops. So it's really a moot point. How can we honestly say 77 more if the numbers aren't accurate? I can say the same with last year's numbers as well, not with the same confidence because 2,000 is a little more than 77, admittedly, but how we can stake a claim in a debate when we don't have accurate number counts? I can't honestly believe these numbers are close to accurate when schools are inflating their numbers by 200% and more.

2012 will be a great year for Troy. Hosting both Mississippi State and Navy + the new end zone building + a talented/experienced FB team. I really can't wait...
