Yes, I know it was that close, and this year it isn't a big difference. In previous posts this post-season you (I assume it was you) harped about how 2,000 fans per game (last season's approx. delta) wasn't all that big. And I showed you how it was. In a marketing professional's mind, 1 person could be all that it takes. If you hook 1 of those 77 or 2,000 people then you have a lifelong consumer who will spend thousands of dollars on the program. The more you bring in, the more you will hook. Attendance is a big issue, even if the difference is almost nothing.

Also, an extra game IS a big deal. We hosted over 19,000 more people than Troy did this season. I know they all weren't unique visitors, but there were thousands of unique visitors in that 1 extra game (whichever one you pick).

The extra game IS a big deal. I've said that. I think Troy has six in 2012. So I definitely agree with you. I kind of agree with the "hooking" one or two fans, but it's still a very small percentage, so I'm on the fence about that. What I will say in regards to this year, is those 77 fans truly are negligible when you stop to realize that attendance figures are no where near exact. Inflation plays a big part. If we had a magic satellite attendance counter, it could show that Troy averaged 1,000 more or that MTSU averaged 3,000 more. That's the main reason why I believe it's negligible.

The New Orleans Bowl reported 30,000 in attendance. There were 12,000 tops. Ohio brought 2,000 at the most. I've seen where FIU reported 16,000 and only 5,000 were there, tops. So it's really a moot point. How can we honestly say 77 more if the numbers aren't accurate? I can say the same with last year's numbers as well, not with the same confidence because 2,000 is a little more than 77, admittedly, but how we can stake a claim in a debate when we don't have accurate number counts? I can't honestly believe these numbers are close to accurate when schools are inflating their numbers by 200% and more.

Hey, hey...leave FIU out of this fight, will ya? After all, those are the official numbers (tickets sold plus students and walk up), not necessarily people in the stands....

It's going to be a banner year at the ol' Blakeney house.
