RE: WAC be gone
New Mexico State & Utah State will get invited by the conference. Utah State still has been invited by the conference but turned it because they thought Fresno State & Nevada didn't get invited. They are in the middle of reconsidering the invitation now that Fresno State & Nevada got invited and accepted the invitation.

RE: WAC be gone
Utah State's not in the middle of reconsidering; the MWC is in the middle of reconsidering. And since nothing has happened for weeks, I'm willing to bet the MWC decided to stand pat at 10 for now. The MWC needs the WAC for OOC play and bowl games; it was stupid of them to kill it off in the first place.

For those that don't already know and actually care to championship games are not money generators for C-USA and the MAC and likely wouldn't be for the MWC if they had one either.

Not huge money generators like the SEC game, but CUSA does make a little amount of money on it...at least when UCF and ECU have hosted. Not sure about the years that Houston and Tulsa hosted. It's really more about the publicity of having a game on ESPN to be sure.

RE: WAC be gone
If the Mountain West was in the BCS it would make a lot more money than Conference USA and Mid-American conference title games.

Doubtful, because they don't have the TV sets regardless of whether they're in the BCS. It might make more, but not "a lot" more than the CUSA game. And the MWC is not going to be in the BCS with BYU and Utah gone.

RE: WAC be gone
There are three criteria for becoming an AQ conference. The MWC fails based on the overall rank of the conference members, because no one but BYU, Utah, TCU, and to a lesser extent Air Force pulled their weight. BYU-Utah + Boise State does not improve that. And now they've got New Mexico holding them down as the worst team in the country and all Fresno State and Nevada do is hold the middle. The MWC will not be a BCS conference unless and until BYU comes back and some of the bad programs start playing better.

RE: WAC be gone
I still feel BYU's final destination is the Big 12, which will ensure that the Mountain West doesn't gain any ground on the AQ conferences. For the 12th school, it could be pretty much anyone with a track record and good fan support-if Colorado State or Air Force emerges as a regular contender, the Big 12 will have its a member that bridges BYU geographically with the rest of the North Division. The Denver market is also too important to ignore.

The scheduling issues (no games on Sunday) can be worked around, especially with a Baptist school (Baylor) in the conference.

RE: WAC be gone
I think Hawaii's departure might be the beginning of the end for the WAC:

1) If Texas Christian and Central Florida go to the Big East, Conference USA invites Louisiana Tech, bringing the WAC down to 7 and 6 for football.
2) If the Mountain West wants to balance Hawaii's football-only membership, they invite Denver from the WAC, taking the WAC down to 6 for all sports.
3) If the Mountain West loses TCU and still wants to go to 12 schools, they invite 2 of the following: Houston, SMU, Rice, UTEP, Utah State, San Jose State, Idaho, and New Mexico State. Let's say it Houston and Utah State (with New Mexico State to Conference USA), meaning the WAC is down to 4 for all sports.
4) Idaho is allowed by the Big Sky to play as a FBS independent while parking its other sports in the conference, solving the Big Sky's scheduling issues in a number of sports.
5) San Jose State joins the Big West for everything but football, which plays as a FBS independent
6) UTSA and Texas State join the Sun Belt for all sports.

UTEP doesn't want New Mexico State in the same conference.

the cusa/east teams want replacements in their division should they loose schools to big east. both marshall and ecu have complained about travel distance to division foes, plus no one wants any more texas schools. la tech brings nothing to the table regarding tv land, and nmsu even less. in addition, nmsu is 600+ miles from dallas, and is hard to get to.

You make a lot of sense. ECU and Marshall would make sense in the Beast, that's why it probably wont happen.

north texas would like to as well, but not going to happen. neither nmsu or la. tech bring anything to the table. fair to poor programs in rual communities with no population or t.v. market. they both would be lucky to return to the belt, especially la. tech who seem to go out of its way to insult present conference members. nmsu has $ problems, and is presently reviewing athletic program. of particular concern is lack of return on investment as regards its football program.

Apparently Utah State is in talks with the MWC again; the end may be near.

MWC should just go to 12 with Hawaii, USU, and Idaho. NMSU and La Tech to the Belt. SJSU...well, who cares. Big West and Big Sky?

I don't see how Utah St doesn't except the MWC invite this time. Louisiana Tech, New Mexico St and Idaho may think about crawling back to the Sun Belt Conference.

RE: WAC be gone
If UCF went to the BE, I don't think La tech makes any sense as an replacement. Fiu/Fau or Temple for all sports makes much more sense. The fla schools have decent market and keeps a fla presence for CUSA. Temple brings in Philly market, and good BB along with improving football program. La tech give CUSA nothing they already wouldn't have.
