Sun Belt Expansion?
hey guys another question? What teams have you considered for expansion? I know South Alabama is in the pipeline and if/when Boise joins the MWC I could see La Tech joining an east coast league? any others that i dont know about? Good luck with your seasons hope you get some extra bowls too.

La Tech will not join the Sun Belt. There is some bad history behind that. The Sun Belt said it wouldn't expand anymore unless a team brings something big to the conference. The only reason South Alabama is joining is because they are already in the conference in other sports.

Again... You're spelling Missouri wrong.

I mean, you're not even close. Starts with an "M", and you're forgetting the double "s", too.

One would have to think Missouri State, Texas State, and Georgia State are in the mix, if there is a mix. I like the first two.

I don't think there will be any expansion in the near future either.

Has Missouri State expressed a formal interest in moving to FBS after the moratorium? Everything I've read, they are VERY happy being in the MVC.

We don't need to expand.

What is with this rabid desire to add teams.

If this true about UNO, we lose a team rated around 285 in last year's RPI. That in and of itself will raise the conference RPI. Denver is on the clock and was rated around 225.

We can do nothing and improve our rankings. Somehow that seems like a logical move.

Exactly. We drop those two (though sorry to hear about UNO, esp. for their fans) and FIU gets its act together we could be a two bid conference.

Also, if we could get rid of WKU football (03-nutkick) and replace it with La Tech, we could pass the MAC and get that extra share of BCS $$$. Oh yeah, here comes S. Alabama. 03-banghead

If Denver is the next to go, would we add a Missouri St. as a basketball only member?

Denver had the youngest team in all of Division I last year (18.3 years avg) and still finished .500 in the conference (9-9) and 15-16 overall. They even beat Western Kentucky last year. This year, they are picked second the West Divsion by the coaches, as they didn't lose anyone from last year's young team, so I don't see the Pioneers dragging down the conference RPI. This is a program on the rise.

Its also a program supposedly leaving, and therefore likely to peak after it is no longer here.

Used to be Southwest Missouri, until about 10 years ago.

Very strong baseball program and one of the best facilities in the nation.

Mizzou State is the 2d largest university in the state (around 19K students) and is located in Springfield, MO:

Bear's facilities:

Springfield, MO:
Springfield is the third largest city in the state of Missouri . . . July 1, 2008, the estimated population was 156,206 . . . the Springfield Metropolitan Area, population 426,144 . . . the estimated population inside a 50-mile radius of Springfield was 565,245 as of the 2000 census.

I would love to have Mizzou State in the SBC . . . 04-rock
