UALR won at Miss St. the year they went to the final 4.

A correction:
Jacksonville made the Final Four in 1970. The Sun Belt wasn't formed until August 1976, but in it's first year, it was UNC Charlotte who represented the conference by making the Final Four in March 1977.

I had forgotten about that. For a conference to put a member in the Final Four in its first year is probably the Top moment in Sun Belt history.

I think we have a winner.

As I read this thread I grew more and more amazed that no one brought up this amazing moment in the SBC history. Thankfully you guys caught it before I went full-on seizure.

Pretty damn amazing for a conference to do that in its first season. On the other hand, it's been all downhill from there.

The greatest day in Sun Belt history was when Craig "The Sun Belt will never have football so we need metro basketball schools" Thompson took the MWC commissioner job.

North Texas, Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Monroe, and Troy would never have become members if he had remained with his positive outlook on getting football.

That has to be the winner.

Can't remember the year, but the UNO's 22-20 SBC basketball win in the championship game over the South Alabama Jaguars has to be close to the top. The Jaguars went into the 4-corners defense and slowed the game down which resulted into the low score. After that year, the Belt adopted a 45-second shot clock which the NCAA initiated into today's shot clock.

March 1978, at the Charlotte Coliseum. One of Cliff Ellis' teams.

***South's victory over the Crimson Tide in the 1989 Big Dance was a huge moment for the Jags, and a huge story in all media within the state of Alabama. Not sure if it got a lot of play around the Belt, though.

How about our New Orleans Bowl victories ?

One thing for sure-- we haven't seen our best moment in football yet. Stay tuned.

Greatest moment in FAU history was the 2007 defeat of Troy at Troy to win the confrence and go to the NOBOWL. That vicotry, our first EVER against Troy, in thier house, put us on the path we are now on and gave us the spotlight.

That game was voted by over 80% on a recent poll as our greatest win.

When we beat a good AQ program (Minn in my mind doesnt really count, they were GOD AWFUL that year) that might eclipse it, and if we beat a ranked AQ team it certainly will.

I take that as a compliment. To be a team's GREATEST win says something for your program, especially when the team in question (FAU) has won the Conference title.

I agree. We've been draggin our feet due to losing schollies. I don't think this conference has seen what we can do with a good HC and when we are not on probation.

Middle Tennessee is a consistant program, but you are consistantly playing second fiddle to someone. I wonder if Franklin will be able to do for you guys, what he did for us. TF turned Troy into the powerhouse of the Conference inside three seasons, can he do it again...in Blue?

RE: Top Moment in SBC history
McCollum focused on OOC games and didn't put enough effort into the conference games. Then we lost a couple of coaches to Florida. Then we went on probation for academic reasons. We finally have a good HC, a good OC (that probably won't leave unless it's a HC job) and some depth. That's why we beat Maryland last year; we are starting to reach the levels that we should have 4 years ago. I suspect that we will be playing on a new level this year. Barring losing our QB, or a lot of starters to injury, we should do very well. Troy, FAU, ASU and ULL are always problems, but I think we are about to reach new heights. Unfortunately, the odds are good that those teams are as well. I stand by my premise that this conference hasn't seen an MT team play that hasn't had to deal with major issues. This year should tell the tale. I think Franklin should at least beef up the offense to a reasonable level. I believe that he will do great things. Obviously, there are no guarantees in life. We will see over the next few weeks.

Just to clarify, when I said "we" I meant the Sun Belt, not MT.

Sorry for the confusion.
