WKU fans on Hilltopper Haven
I went over to the WKU message board today to see if they were pumped about football. I found a thread where they were saying they didn't want the Sun Belt logo on there field. One even said it could go in the parking lot for all he cared. Are WKU fans so ashamed of the Sun Belt that they don't want the logo on there fields? WKU lost every game against Sun Belt teams last year and they still think there better than the Belt.

I've found that my fondness for WKU fans goes higher the longer I avoid Hilltopper Haven.

The echo chamber of self-delusion and ******* stupidity that tends to build up around ANY team/school specific forum (and I include the ones that I love) is pretty off-putting to anyone not in that specific fan base.

The bigger the membership gets, the more inevitable it becomes. And again, it's not a knock on WKU; it's true of any message board like Hilltopper Haven or Go Mean Green or any other forum that's dedicated to a specific team or school.

It's one of the reasons I like this forum so much. It keeps me informed about all the SBC schools, and the diversity of posters helps to keep people's homerism in check.

You know I'm happy to have them in the conference for football, I really am, but if they think they're too good they can take their happy asses back to the Missouri Valley for all I care.

Please do not judge WKU on the 25-30 or so folks that do all the posting on Hilltopper Haven. The great majority of WKU supporters are very happy to be in the Sunbelt.

One poster on there is so out of check with the Belt that he thinks WKU will winit this year. He says the Gateway is a better conference than the Belt.

RE: WKU fans on Hilltopper Haven
Look if you had watched a dreadful UNT beat your team one year because your players acted like classless jerks and got a penalty that cost them the game and then watched a dreadful UNT beat them because the QB freaked out and forced a pass on third and goal that resulted in a 99 yard pick six, you'd still be drunk as well and spouting stupid things.

Reading the Haven is the best argument against La Tech being permitted to return. The space time continum cannot deal with pull of two such message boards where reality is prohibitted being in the same conference.

What I've learned of the Haven is this:
1. If WKU is doing well it is because they are just so freaking awesome and the conference didn't help them in any way.
2. If WKU is doing poorly it is the Sun Belt's fault because they are so God-Blessed fantastic it could never be a bad break or bad recruiting.

The best advice I can give anyone is stay as far away from the Haven or BBB as you can because it will color your opinion of the sane people who graduated those schools.

I agree. 'Some' of the WKU people are cut from the same cloth as Loser Tech fans.

RE: WKU fans on Hilltopper Haven
Really, don't get bent out of shape over it. It's a few yahoos over there that have little to no perception of reality. Like our Greek friend said, every team-centric message board has them.

There was a time, shortly after our loss to Gonzaga, that I grew fed up with a lot of the stupidity over there and left for a little while. I'm posting again, but at nowhere near the ferocity that I once did.

Most of us are just happy to have a home to play BCS football in. Just focus on those people and do yourself a favor and don't bother reading the Haven.

Please don't think all WKU fans think like some of those fans on the Haven. Some of us, myself included, are really looking forward to our first full year in the SBC. I know we have a few years to go before we can fully compete for the title but I am know we will eventually.

RE: WKU fans on Hilltopper Haven
heyzeus cristo on a popsickle stick.

as my good friend the 'greek' said.....you can find that fodder on any homer message board. i went back and had to do a search to even find it since the thread was so old.

there were 2 semi negative statements. one by hilltop75 where he just wanted the field to stay clean looking. i know him and he is not an over the top eedjit by any means.

another one by wkukicksbutt and it was kinda off base with him wanting it in the endzone. i don't know this person so can't comment.

the worst one was by fftop saying it could be in the parking lot. i've sat with him at a few games and he's a football first fan which is rare at wku.

but he was also adamantly opposed to moving up. he wants wku to do well but his fondness for 1aa football colors his perception of the belt.

i guarantee i can go on every school's homer message board and find something derogatory towards the conference or conference members. some folks seem to get a chub every time they find a nugget on haven.

fact: we have some idiots on our board. every board does. but we have some very good posters that love hilltopper athletics yet are still realists.

my advice is for you to not read it. if you do read it and find something idiotic, why bring it here??? what purpose does it serve??? you haven't seen the majority of wku fans on this board starting mierda. i will respond to muts slams against wku but overall, i've enjoyed this board and have tried to keep my smart-@ssed remarks to a minimum.

of all the homer boards that i've read through the years i'd have to rank the ualr board and members as the most sane. tribal grounds was in civil war status during the last couple dick nutt years.

i'm much happier being in the belt than the mac. never did like the idea of the mac at all. i'm concerned about how bad we'll prolly suck for the first couple years as our a.d. basically said on a radio show he didn't expect to compete until '11 or '12. they still plan on redshirting every single kid out of the best recruiting class in the belt this year. i understand the logic behind it but i can't believe there's not a skill position player that can't help us this year.

It was more unpleasant than that, and I'm not sure we've really recovered as yet.

RE: WKU fans on Hilltopper Haven
I am always amazed at the number of posters that go to the Haven Board and dredge something up and that put it here to shed a negative light on Hilltopper Fans.
You know the funny thing I never see is anyone go there and find a positive post that was made about SBC and then bring it up here. . And there were many.

Because WKU came up again on MAC boards and about 99% of posters on the haven said not interested we like the Sunbelt. I really see The SBC ahead of the
MAC and CUSA in the future.

The real fans of our Football know we deserved to be ranked 9th out of 9 teams until we prove otherwise on the field. And we also realize that we are damn glad that the SBC had 1A Football because what other conference if we wanted to play 1A Football was going to extend us membership...None .... So I for one am glad we can compete for a conference championship in Football.

What was missed in my comments on putting Sunbelt on the field was to do it as a inset with colored blades of the turf, rather than paint it on. When they painted the Gateway Logo on our last turf it looked bad.

i felt for you guys those years. when we were going through the killprogram debacle years message boards were just starting and i was on prodigy then aol.

nothing at all like what we have now. if h.h. had existed then it would have been mayhem. although i am somewhat ashamed to admit it i went to games during killprogram's last year hoping we would lose just so the inevitable could be hurried up.

ya'lls biggest problems was that dick nutt wouldn't have terrible teams...just mediocre to decent ones. and then the whole 'nutt' name power in your state.

i remember some pretty fiery exchanges on tribal grounds between posters. being a moderator had to be pretty tough.

RE: WKU fans on Hilltopper Haven
Honestly the comment that stuck in my craw the most was the one by our old buddy over at BRZ galojah.

Quote:I think they will paint the SBC logo on the field... instead of stitching it in like the red towel and numbers, etc.

I'm not sure if it was meant this way, but I read it as the SBC is just a stop over for WKU.

Now IMO, WKU is one of the schools in the SBC that is in a good position for re-alignment if and when it happens, however, I believe that's pending football success both on the field and in the stands.

WKU does have a lot to offer, but if their football woes don't change, I'm not sure they'll continue to be viewed that way.

You're exactly spot on. It's a curse to have a mediocre team with the so-called money boosters constantly looking ahead a year.

Well put Dahbeed. These boards represent less than 1% of most fan bases and are usually made up of the diehards and we all have our "idjit" posters.

RE: WKU fans on Hilltopper Haven
First of all, WKU fans are more naive (read uniformed about football) than most other Belt fans. I remember when MT first joined and many of us were thinking "what the hell...the Sun Belt?" Just give them a couple of years to realize that they are low men on the ladder now and they will come to realize that playing a full schedule in a 1AA confernece is a lot easier than playing one in 1A, even in the Sun Belt. They are just new and don't have a clue. It will hit them as soon as they make it to a bowl game, or get a win against a BCS team at home and then they will sing a different tune.
