BD - Who has the best marching band in the sunbelt?
The board has been slow recently. So, which sunbelt conference team brings the best band with them? You can check out a link to The Sound of the South in my updated signature. The show sample is an audio file of live performances at exhibitions. Post some of your bands!
EDIT: no offense to FIU, I should included them as well, as they had a band last year, didnt think to add them...

This is one poll that I can't vote in. Troy and Middle are neck and neck.....how can you vote for one or the other?

Middle and Troy have two of the best bands in the country. They're easily the best two in the conference, but picking between the two might as well be a coin flip.

That wont happen for a long time. Congrats to USA for getting a program started, but it will be a long time before they are on the same level at "The Band of Blue" and "The Sound of the South." Both band march well over 300 strong and the cap on the USA marching band is 200.

It'll happen sooner than you think for USA. They had over 600 apply for the band so there is A LOT of interest. USA is the fastest growing University in the state of Alabama and enrollment (on campus) will surpass 15,000 for this fall. Mobile area's economy and poplulation is growing as well which will naturally add to the enrollment. As the enrollment increases, so will the budgets, so will the music department and size of marching band. Go Jags!!

I'm a little partial, but I had to vote for the SotS. But then again I haven't been to any other SBC schools home games to see the full show.

Show me those interests on paper and I will believe you. I know some of the instructors down there and it wasn't those kind of numbers. You guys will not be at the level of The Sound of the South, The Marching Southerners, and MDB are in this state for a long time.

RE: BD - Who has the best marching band in the sunbelt?
Ha, Ha... "and one time in band camp...." No doubt Troy has a fine band. I remember going there for "band camp" when I was in high school.
I heard the 600 figure from the AD months ago. I'm just saying there is a great deal of interest in the marching band from all the regional high schools. My nephew got a scholarship and will be part of the inaugural marching band. I can tell you there was a lot of competition! The music department, symphony, ensembles, pep band have been around for many years. The Marching Band Rehearsal Room, Band Tower and Pavilion are currently under construction. So it's going to happen a lot sooner than you think. Bring on footbal season!!
Also, Mobile is the home of the Senior Bowl and Mardi Gras, so I'm sure the band will be in big demand for parades and Senior Bowl half time shows. It's just a short matter of time....

Pardon, but homie opinions don't carry much weight; especially on a net message board. Show me a link to a legit non-homer site that rates those bands the best in the Belt. Net polls like this are pretty useless and really prove nada.

Really??? Seriously?? It's just a poll i put up, but if it's gonna be that serious, look at it like this. That "thing" you just put up is as credible as anyone's opinions here. Secondly, you're not going to find a sunbelt band on there. Won't happen no matter how good we are. That list is a list of the bands he's heard of or seen live. Honestly, the person or "group" who ranked them probably hasnt been to a sunbelt game in their life.
Also, half of those are HBCU bands. It's apples and oranges. Just because some dumb site that I see once a year for one of a thousand troy football previews ranks the "top 10 bands" doesn't make them credible.
Watch this video and tell me you've heard a band that has a louder, richer, fuller sound than The Sound of the South...

I don't say that Troy doesn't have a good band. The claimed greatness is what I question.
