Sorachi Ace Saison is coming along quite nicely. Wyeast 3711 took this from a OG of 1.055 to a FG of 1.002 in 4 days. Produced some great fruit and spice aromas, too.
Also making some skittles-infused vodka for this week's tailgate. Probably will bum some Natty Ice off of a friend for playing beer pong. Planning on heading home after the game to share a bottle of Dogfish Head's Theobroma and then drink some homebrew. Should be a boozy day.

Beer. It should be hazy at this point because it hasn't settled much and there's some wheat in there. It should be at a color of 9 on the SRM scale ( http://www.franklinbrew.org/brewinfo/srm.html ), which seems about right to me.
If you're curious as to what a saison is, they're spicy/funky farmhouse ales from France or Belgium. An excellent example is Hennepin. My recipe probably used a bit too much caramel malt, so it might not be exactly on point for the style, but it should be decently close. I hopped it with Sorachi Ace hops, which were engineered by Sapporo to have a lemony flavor. They're definitely interesting hops.

I'd just describe Saison as the best summer beer...ever. Just my $.02.

That's 8 cases up on the wall. We have about 4 more to put up. My roommates and I are going to cover the whole wall with beer cases and then cover it with a green Spartan S. (Hopefully with that green/white bud light they come out with during football season) Should take around 55 cases to finish the wall. I'll post progress pics throughout the year.

Did you ever drink the Theobroma? I've been wanting to try that one. Is it still being brewed? I thought it was more of a limited release.

On the evening of November 2, if Liz Carter breaks 45% of the vote against Hank "Guam is capsizing" Johnson, I get a bottle of 30 year old Macallan Sherry Oak Scotch for my efforts.

RE: What have you been drinking lately?
Been a while since I updated... but let's give it a shot.
The saison was fantastic. Already drained the keg. Even though it was over 7% alcohol, I was able to just down pint after pint. Need to make that one again. The newest beer on keg is a wheatwine. I really like it so far... but I get the feeling that it's almost too smooth and balanced. I like my wine-strength beers to have some bite! I do have to say that dry-hopping that batch was a great idea. It smells beyond aggressive, but is well balanced between bitter, sweet and booze.
I did finally drink my Theobroma this week. It was a bit underwhelming... almost seems like Sam didn't emphasize the special ingredients enough. That being said, it was a decent beer. I may also be judging it harshly because I drank it after drinking a Westvleteren 8 that my roommate brought back to me from Belgium. Damn, that's some excellent beer.
