I'm willing to bet the house that MT gets more pub in Nashville than USA gets in Mobile.

Sure..You are counted in the market that cares about the goings on in Nashville. But take a deep breath .. The people in Nashville do not care much about MTSU or WKU.. How may people in Nashville will be discussing the WKU-MTSU co-championship around the water cooler on Monday? 10? 100? You are in Their Market.. They are in no way in yours! Go to Nashville and ask people on the street which is their favorite Sports team. Who they support. Who they would watch on TV or in person.
Even easier count the number of MTSU /WKU hats or shirts you see.
Count the number of GB or boro based companies that have ads in Nashville papers or on Nashville TV stations. Then count the number of Nashville based Ads at your stadium and arena.

Lastly ask your athletic director about your impact on the Nashville Market. Obviously you will find I am wrong. That is why our TV package is so great. We have Miami, Nashville x 2, Mobile, Dallas, the rich sun coast of FL, and New Orleans as Market Areas . We are in great shape and spend our time counting the TV revenue.

You would lose that bet. There is a huge buzz around Mobile and Pensacola for USA football.

RE: Conference re-alignment
I doubt it. I remember being amazed at how few locals knew about the SBC Hoops tourney when I spent 4 days in Mobile. I saw not one USA plate until I got around the university. Tons of Alabama and Auburn..... and WKU plates were seen.

I'll give the cities of Bowling Green and Lafayette props..... at least you see gear and school colors throughout the region. That said, Lafayette locals were not aware of the hoops tourney, either, but I see lots of vermillion each time I visit Acadiana.

Since we've gone 1-A in football we are getting lots of press in Nashville. Believe that. WKU gets quite a bit of mention from time to time, as well.

Football will hopefully change things in Mobile, but it doesn't happen over night. When I was in Mobile for the SBC baseball tourney, the Cajuns had more fans there than the Jags. The campus area was almost a ghost-town.

RE: Conference re-alignment
With all the bickering back and forth, none of us are going to the Big East any time soon. I think it's laughable.

That I hope we can all agree on. USA football is going to be a big deal real fast.

RE: Conference re-alignment
I hope you are right, because the excitement and newness can wear off real fast if a team doesn't win.

With USA continuing to move up levels, it should grow each year, esp. in a football rich area that can keep fans in Ladd instead of travelling to Tuscaloosa or Auburn or Baton Rouge or even Hattiesburg.

How many games has UNT won in the past 3 years...uh 6 I think and 1 of those was against a pitiful FIU team in 2006 that took 7 OT's to win. So dont knock us for your miserable and pathetic football team that you guys have aquired.

I just wanted feed back, not your attempt to be funny!!!

You know whats funny about all of these UNT people. All they do to diss us is talk about how we lost to ULM or talk about our attitude.

First of all dissing us because we actually lost to a conference member not only drags the conference down, but is sad. Haha hell you guys struggle to even beat ONE conference member 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

As for our attitudes...we have a right to be proud and excited each and every year. Every year we can have high hopes for our team. Why? Because we have an awesome staff and awesome talent every year.

Oh and by the way...last year was suppose to be a rebuilding year, but even on those years we are still a very good team.

So I guess you guys can just keep on having fun cheering for us to lose....have fun with that. Believe me..it makes the season a lot more fun each and every conference game we win.

Hoops attendence does leave a lot to be desired, I'll agree, but this (Mobile) is a football town and not much of a B-Ball town. Hopefully the football team will help "sell" better attendance for other USA sports, which remains to be seen.

As for all of the Auburn and 'Bama hats, shirts, car tags, etc., your point is a good one but for the large part, these SEC fans are excited about having college football in Mobile and if you look at the drivers of those autos you'll find quickly it is not rare at all to see many of them with USA apparel.

In other words, if you quiz 10 people wearing Auburn/Bama apparel what they think of USA football, and I do all the time being in retail for a large department store chain, you'll find 9 out of 10 of them are excited about it and will pledge to come to the games as long as the game doesn't conflict with their number one SEC team's gameday. I know this firsthand because I never fail to ask everyone of these Bama/Auburn fans this question.

Last but not least, at any USA sporting event, you'll see tons of people wearing an SEC hat and a USA shirt or vice versa. Any USA fan will back all of these claims, by the way.

RE: Conference re-alignment
I don't hate Troy. I honestly want every other team in the conference to succeed (except against North Texas).

I'm not sure what happened with this thread that all of a sudden things take an angry turn. One of the things I've loved about this forum is that people haven't been idiot homers, they haven't been argumentative and unpleasant, and that everyone from WKU to MTSU to FAU and Troy has generally taken jokes in good spirit.

Nobody is wishing for you to fall apart, so just relax already.

And as for our godawful football pit of despair... This too shall pass. Things will improve dramatically, immediately; or things will change and hopefully our AD will bring in someone who doesn't turn out to need a learning curve. There's more to our school and our athletics than football (thank goodness, given the situation right now) and I've sure as hell never tried to explain away or excuse the nosedive we've suffered in the past two years.

I needle Troy fans (in good spirit, not maliciously) because of a lack of historical perspective. You guys have been consistently strong for the past few years and you've got what looks like a great year in store. But one bowl game every other year and not one single clean season in-conference... Maybe a smidge of humility wouldn't hurt. Just ask some of my fellow North Texas alums. Every program is just one or two problems away from a potential meltdown. Ours started before our 26 game streak and 4 bowl run was even over, with one car accident. The cascade started there, and one other guy flunking out was all it took to get the snowball rolling so hard it got out of control.

Now we're stuck at the bottom of D-1A with Friday Nightmare Lights trying to pull out of a career tailspin.

Wish us luck.

Anyway... Most of the Troy fans here are loyal, enthusiastic fans with a lot of pride and high expectations. Even when they've got the homer hat on, they aren't unreasonable.

Which is what makes this so surprising. I'm not sure what happened in this thread that things turned so ugly and confrontational.

Good luck this season, and calm the hell down.

RE: Conference re-alignment
Not to be a downer, but I'm sure there are quite a few patronizing Auburn and Bama fans who like the concept of USA football. As soon as there is some success and someone says why don't you play USA or some kid they wanted to walk-on takes a scholie at USA, the attitude will change.
