My fraternity, Sigma Nu, has held the SA President position 2 of the last 3 years. The new President of the RHA is a Sigma Nu. The new VP of the SA is a Sigma Nu. We have 9 of our 65 members elected to one position or another in the SA. The new Student Trustee is pledging in the fall and his younger brother - the new VP of Mass Transit (Huskie Bus Line) will be pledging, also.

You non-Greek frat bashers are living under the banner of Greek leadership. How frustrating for you! LOL.
Well, that certainly explains why the SA seemed like they were a bunch of a-holes-because the were/are. They took away the power of the students to run CAB and put it in their hands. Being a republican, I thought you hated fascism, yet here you are supporting it.

I do it because I know it gets Kedz angry and because, well, I think that the Greek system is a waste of time and money. Drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.

Probably because that describes Kedz?

RE: NIU Tugs 2009 Tournament Thread
Haha!

I am a TKE alum at NIU and a bunch of us are coming up on Thursday. We didn't know what time the matches were so I figured Kedz would have started a thread...and he did. So to answer some people's question: there are people who care about this thread.

It's all the same, never changes, this thread was an opportunity for people to make fun of fraternities. That's cool, everybody is entitled to their opinion, that's what is STILL awesome about America.

I will say that I participated in tugs while an undergrad and participate in our annual Alumni tug against the current members. I played football, and everything else and I can tell you that very little compares to tugs. It's brutal!

There is a lot of extracurricular that surrounds the event, and a few idiots participating, it's just a microchosm of greek life, which really is a microchosm of life in general. At the end of the day, it is a really unique event that requires a very commendable amount of training and raises a TON of money for charity.

Greek or not, if you have never been, you should check it out. The football team has always been very good about coming out and supporting the event as well as a lot of other non-greeks. It's something completely indigneous to NIU's campus and something you should take in at least once.

Not to mention that Jeff Yordon was a Sig Pi and Dennis Barsema was in SAE.

Two of NIU's biggest contributors!

You don't know your tugs history, my friend...

Pikes LOST in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007. They have only won the tourmanemtn 2 out of the last 6 years.

Wasn't a Sigma Nu also responsible for the joke of the GPS system? Probably the biggest waste of money in NIU history?

This is a total class post. Thanks for your polite words on the matter. Please take time to track me down and introduce yourself to me at the tournament. I look forward to meeting you!

They tug rain or shine. There were some ground maintenance issues due to the rain. Sunday's match was called in the middle of first rope because two of the trenches blew out.

Not sure if they dug new trenches or rebuilt the existing ones, but the match got moved to today. The easiest way to explain it is that Monday's matches will happen Wednesday, Wednesday's matches will be Friday and Saturday is unchanged.

You can see the official tugs schedule on Facebook.com when you search "NIU IFC Tugs 2009".

There is also and alumni tugs group "NIU Fraternity Alumni Tuggers". There are some really great video clips from 2003 Skulls vs. Pike. One of my favorites is a short clip of Phi Sigma Kappa in 1996 - shows some great intensity and big ground hits.

I just got a text that AKL/Skulls defeated Phi Kappa Theta in 3 ropes tonite. The third rope went about 45 minutes. Tough stuff. Congrats to AKL/Skulls.
