if you ever played Putt-Putt at the one by Franklin Park or Great Eastern. Or if you ever played golf at Sunny Brook Par 3 or the golf course on Talmadge where Anderson's is now(the name escapes me).

I remember when there wasn't anything west of Hampshire Heights until Lincolnshire, except fields, and an old farmhouse.
How about
- the Carousel Club, on Central Ave??
- the peanut roaster at Harvest & Monroe??
- Suzy-Q Donuts??
- Charlie's Blind Pig??
- The Brass Bell??
- The Cave??
- Salisbury Quarry??
- Centennial Quarry??
- The Coach House at Cricket West??
- The Fa-Ba?? (and why it was called the Fa-Ba??)
- O'Brien's on Monroe St. (with the outdoor open B-B-Que pit out back)

What was the name of the Dinner Club, run by Irv 'Slick' Shapiro, in the old house on Monroe St., just east of Secor??

The Fa-Ba got its name from the first names of the two owners' wives: Fay and Barbara.

You remember the place to be was Prominade Park downtown during the summer on Friday evening.Eye candy everywhere.
You were part of the pack at one of the Blade Run 10K's that drew 3-4000 runners each year in it's heyday.
You still to this day remember vividly the Palm Sunday tornado. And you even ventured up I75 to the Oh/Mi border to see the damage that was done by it.
You remember the riot that broke out in the Marshall Fieldhouse during the UT Marshall basketball game.
You watched with disbelief as they tore a swath through W. Toledo to build I475.
You watched MASH each week to see if they mentioned Tony Packo hotdogs.
You knew Tonys Bakery, Charlie Chips or Driggs Milk make home deliveries.
Remember when WOHO was THE BEST radio station in Toledo.

I believe Slick's place besides the Aku-Aku was The Granada.

Thanks for the memories! How about the White Tower in front of the YWCA and the butter burgers, swimmers from the YW and YM remember. The Peppermint Loung was off limits except for the older brothers that were not allowed to go there and didnt tell there parents until they were 35. If you were from a large family someone either knew you, your sister or brother or was related to you. That UT was TU or Bancroft High. How about 3.2 beer at the Beer Stube. Fake IDs (thats right no one had them) The old Rec Center in Maumee was a a long way out and the Mud Hens played there. If you learned to ice skate at the sports arena you are mid 50's or so and the ice hockey team was I think the Golddiggers. That you had a backyard big enough to make your own ice rink and your parents loved it to get you out of the house in the winter to "blow the stink off you"
Taking the bus downtown to Smiths Cafeteria and getting a prize in the treasure chest, shopping at Lamsons with your grandmother.

Going to a TU football game was really fun and my father bringing the hand warmers we used when we delivered the Toledo Times. When parents made their children sit in the football stands and learn the game or you were beaten with an inch of your life as to not embarrass them. Wow I could go on. Here we are in 2008 still enjoying football and looking fiorward to 3 more games. Lets get behind our team, players and coaches. Toledo Tome was great for the program , the school and the city.

I remember the Brass Bell, haha! It was just a stone's throw from where I had a lot of my classes, so I spent a lot of...Mom, stop smacking me!

But the Fa-Ba? No clue. I do remember the Ice Cold Beer sign mentioned on the first page. I think it was on Anthony Wayne. I used to read it aloud every time we passed it when I was a little kid, much to my folks' annoyance. "Ice...Cold...Beer........IceColdBeer!" Haha!

I did climb the bell tower at U-hall. Anyone remember getting stuck in that horrid freight elevator in the same building? Gave me nightmares for years.

There was a new music and theater building put up in the late 70s wasn't there?

Which elevator is that??? The only that goes to the 4th floor (Comm dept.) , the one that goes to the 5 floor (English Dept.) Or the one that is in the middle that goes all the way to the 6th floor. I've been stuck in the one that goes to the Comm Dept. before.

The one that goes all the way up to the 6th--music department used to have recitals in one of those halls, and practice rooms were up there. Used to stop between floors and we had to crawl out the top. It was a great excuse to miss class though.

I think I posted about the FaBa earlier in the thread, but I'm too lazy to go look. It was named with the first 2 letters of the two owner's wives' name, Fay and Barbara.

Wow does this bring back memories! My grandfather (Russell Bischoff, passed away in 2001) was the owned and ran Bischoff's for around 50 years. I am pretty sure they closed down for good in the 90s due to competition from the megastores. He was an old school german butcher who always had the best cuts of every kind of meat. The neighborhood his store was in was clean back then and mostly German and Irish immigrants. Wow have times changed. Now i believe there is an Autozone there and down the street there is a XXX movie house next to the Lutheran church that my great great great grandfather helped build.

Ahhh Toledo.

I've been holding off on this but do y'all remember Mauters' Animal Feed & Supply, home of the Loft, first on South Ave. and later on Reynolds Rd?

One of the few places in the nation where you could buy Puppy Chow in 40# bags and Lucchese boots!
