Cowboy - I beleive I seen it on Scout but there appears to be a California JC QB coming in for a visit in January. Doesn't make sence why we would be recruiting a JC QB! He's coming in for a visit with a DE named Spears from the PSL I BELIEVE.

RE: 2008 FB Commits Listing
To comment on Steve's thoughts about the quality. Lets start with the quanity how many scholies are we giving out considering we had 12 seniors then we have guys like Clay, Reese, and a maybe one or two from the 2006 class that didn't work out and we have Desi Maynor transferring. So we have a few slots from the 2006 class that guys like Pollock and Kuhlman can fill. The maximum for the 2007 class is 25 scholies. Last count we had 16 or 17 for Feb 2008 signing day with rumors that we had anywhere from 20-22 verbals. I like Bender wonder where the LBs are. I'm concerned that we have no scholies to upgrade in case a commit from the Big Ten slides down. I really Watman, Morrison who is ranked higher than Priest was in prep school, Selis who can play DE or TE the running back from Cincy I think is really underrated fortunately for us and I like both McKinney and Sanders are WRs.

We never rank high in the MAC for recruiting yet the program has gotten more competitive in the MAC under Genyk. I think we to see how we did and hopefully got some LBs. On paper other MAC schools do better than we do but lets see how we do on the field with them. I remain impressed with our mostly Michigan Feb 2007 class and they will be fun to watch!

That JC QB was just a freshman, so he has 4 years to play 3. However, he committed to Toledo the other day and won't be doing his other official visits.

QB is probably not a high priority position for the EMU staff. They've already got good depth and talent.

Just confirming, both Kuhlman and Reese are now on campus. Sounds like Kuhlman is about 6'3". Reese is probably about the same but thinner. Kuhlman is probably DT or DE prospect, while Reese is DE or LB prospect (I understand he can really run). Both were delayed due to injury (Kuhlman a knee injury in the Ohio All Star game - not sure about Reese' injury). Kulman was a grey shirt. Reese may have been moved to grey shirt status as well...?

Who is Reese? Is this the kid that was one of last years recruits?

Yes Wooden, Javon Reese was one of the announced recruits from last year's class and probably is a greyshirt, he's about 6'3,200 as I recall and runs the 40 at 4.5, should be in the Scout and Rivals database and he's from a Fort Wayne Indiana HS I'm at work and doing this from memory.

Thanks Cowboy. I pulled up last years recruits. He was listed as a 6'3" 220# DL. Good to hear he's still in the program. Looks like only two kids from last years class are no longer in the program - Clay and the DL from OH. That's not a bad retention rate.

[/quoteKuhlman is a defensive lineman, needs to bulk up to play DE though.

I'm glad Reese showed up he had some interest (I didn't say offers) from some Big Ten schools his senior year. Yes, Wooden the retention rate was very good from last year' class the best of Genyk's recruiting classes. I look at Shieves (the Ohio DL) who quit being replaced by Kuhlman and Pollock replacing Clay in other words I think all these guys count against last year's class and we would still have the max 25 to offer this year. I'm not sure what the total number of scholies we are attempting to get for this year's class.

Cowboy!!!..have you gone mad, friend??...the best of Genyk`s recruiting classes? Not by a long shot. I`m sure you knew you would get a response from me on that one..lol....2005 Schmitt, Lang, Fretz, Holtzclaw, Gage, Wyatt, May, Blevins, Selmon, Stone, Bonner, Garrison, Harrison, S. Smith, Larkins, Cozart. Genyk prays he can land another class like this one, 16 out of the top 50 players in the state of Michigan, more than any other Michigan school, obviously some not with the program anymore. If these players turn out as good as these guys, I`ll agree with you in the long run...lets hope they do....

There are several MAC schools with a lot of talent at QB. Aaron Opelt played very strongly for Toledo when not injured and we had a couple of freshman in last year's class that were both three star recruits. But we had four scholarship QB's and our coaches like to have five on the roster. Clint Cochran will be a senior next year too, and Pettee might even redshirt since he has 4 years to play 3.

I really think that Aaron Opelt is going to have a breakout year next year for Toledo.

RE: 2008 FB Commits Listing
Warrior,

I should have clarified what I meant best recruiting class in terms of retaining recruits. The class with Lang, Wyatt was an excellent class the 2005 class I believe. But I have to tell you its early but the 2007 class looks pretty good Warrior McMahon especially and I think both the offensive line and defensive line recruits will surprise some people as well as the RBs and WRs. There were alot of redshirts so we'll see.

Getting back to early signees I wonder why the kid from Fort Union Prep Morrison isn't one of the early signees. He could be a significant contributor in the DB race and we need improvement in the secondary.

If you add Pollock, Kuhlman and Reese to the the very first post on this board you get about 19-20 recruits. Are we done?
