Obviously your boyfriend is not a"grown man", from your post he has a lot of growth to do maturity wise. Its bad enough for college kids to overreact and do foolish things(like rush the court), no excuse for a "grown man". If I were you sweetheart, I'd do some serious evaluating as whether or not that was the man I wanted for the father of my children. But since you condone his actions, I just hope that gene pool doesn't merge!

Look, I am sorta sorry that your friend got shoved--but--lets look at this from Dorseys side(and I gurrantee you that is the side I will always take)

Fans mouthing off to him during the game---a physichal game with a stunning upset by an upstart UAB team. A very hot arena--

I am no algebra major, but this is all an equation for a serious problem.

Put simply, stay off the floor and you don't get shoved. When you enter the area where the players are, you have no idea what anybody, on either side, is thinking.

It is a regrettable incident, and I don't doubt that the "shovee" meant no harm--but how was any memphis person to know that?

Yes! It happened to my boyfriend. He was trying to storm the court and Dorsey gave him two hard shoves. Dorsey is a thug!

Loserville wannabes, it's always sad to see. So the line is: we were on the court where we had no business and that mean player who was supposed to be there pushed us so he could leave! Boo-hoo. Fortunately, when your players leave our court after a defeat, I won't be storming the court so they won't be in any danger and neither will I.

No, the fans need to be punished. A basketball player has a right that they get safely off the court. The fans in my opionon are the ones causing the problem, and if there is an altercation, its on them. It's not like a player went into the stands ala NBA.

Dorsey is just a hot head. He's very competitive but he lets his emotions get the best of him. I'm shocked he hasn't been in a fight yet.

So let see. Dorsey was in the tunnel, you say, leaving the court, and when he pushed someone it's his fault. Not the fan's, of course, oh no, the fan has every right to get in Dorsey's way as he's leaving the court. Unbelievable.

Maybe UAB needs to change its school colors to red, you're starting to sound like a certain former conference member.

Oh, like the fan was walking at a pace like a Sunday stroll in the park. I seriously doubt it. He may have been "walking" but probably in a very fast pace close to running since he was eager to storm the court.

Also, if the fan was in the tunnel. Why didn't the fan move to one side of the tunnel instead of walking at or near Dorsey. Tunnels are usually larger than just two-person wide. As previously stated, no person without proper credentials should be in a tunnel that the players use to access the court. And such incident that is being discussed is the reason why.

EDIT:

Found this on the Blazer board:

od4uab Wrote:I was the UAB fan that Dorsey shoved during the great storming of the court. I STAND in the frozen 100 section behind the opposing bench. With about 20 seconds left on the clock, I worked my way down to the corner of the court behind the Memphis bench. Yes, some Blazer fan was really stirring Dorsey up pretty good. The fan was acting like he had Dorsey's sister on the phone. Dorsey was distracted from the game to say the least.

As soon as the clock wound down, I rushed around the corner and before I knew it found myself in the path of the Thugs errr Tigers. I must give most of them credit --- about 4 of them and I managed to avoid each other despite the fact they were visibly upset that they were being rushed on. Then came Dorkey. Fortunately, the downward angle of his thrust allowed me to keep my feet. Still unprovoked, he proceeded to shove me again before the security guards swarmed in to save HIM. Can you believe that? They corraled me and said I was in his way. Well, duh, there are hundreds of people moving in a confined space. If only I could have thought quickly enough, I would have spouted off something smart and sacrificed myself in true Blazer spirit. As mad as he was, there is no way he could have prevented himself from decking me and just maybe he would have missed some playing time. Nah, Calipari is his coach.

NOTE: "rushed around the corner and before I knew it found myself in the path of the Thugs errr Tigers" not "walk" like some Blazer fans are insinuating and he ended in the "path" of Dorsey.

"there are hundreds of people moving in a confined space" - - the fan and Dorsey would not have encountered each other face to face if security did their job in keeping the tunnel clear until the teams and referees left the court.

Case closed.

1. The opposing student section is not supposed to be that close to the visiting bench. See the Huggins rule.

2. This guy is a *******. How much had he been drinking, I wonder? And from his post, I doubt he was in Dorsey's way just by happenstance. Sounds like he was purposefully trying to instigate something.

3. Nothing will come of this because the administration at UAB knows better. If the matter is persued, UAB will take a big hit for their lack of security. I agree that the SEC rule is the right thing to do. A school like UAB with their strained athletic budget cannot afford a $10K fine for storming the court.

4. No, there would have been no mass storming of the court at the FEF had Darius hit all 3 free throws last year because the FEF has ample security, and the court/stand setup isn't conducive to it.

Fans who storm the court do so at their own risk. Dorsey could have pulverized the crap out of that idiot and due to the attitudes of the national media Joey would have been a hero and would not lose one single minute of playing time.

Had the crowd stormed the court at FEF it would have taken about 30 minutes for crowd to get out of their seats, put on their jackets, talk to their friends in the halls, wait for an elevator (our fans are not going to walk down THAT many steps), and get to the floor. Also, the average Memphis fan would probably be more likely to storm out to beat traffic rather than hang around. 03-hissyfit

I'm sure you guys want my thoughts on this thread.

First, Gene Bartow was not at the game because his sister died over the weekend. He wanted desparately to be at the game since it was UAB-Memphis and because they were honoring our long time play by play announcer who is retiring after 27 years.

Now the court storming.

I agree that it has no place in college basketball and shouldn't be done. I have always hated it. However it does happens and it was approved. The barriers were taken away before the game was over. Britton Banowsky was walking around all night with that supervisory look of his and I am sure if he did not want this to happen, he could have spoken up and the students would have been told not to storm. Whether they would have obeyed or not remains to be seen.

I did not see the incident. I was watching to see if Squeaky escaped alive when he was hugged by three or four guys. However, I believe something happened because it was reported on our board by several observers immediately following the game. I am sure they didn't get together and plant the story after the game.

Court storming is dangerous for the players and the fans. Because there are hotheads and idiots in both groups. I don't know if the fan did anything or not, but you guys know that Dorsey is a timebomb. I have seen you guys talk about it yourselves. I will be very surprised given the Cal's history of given a players second chances and then dismissing them from the team (i.e. Sean Banks, Billy Richmond, Jeremy Hunt) that Dorsey plays four years of ball at Memphis. And I don't mean early entry to the NBA.

As for as the tunnel, there is no way that a fan could end up in the tunnel trying to get from the stands to the court. If the fan was sitting behind the bench, he would have had to go behind the bench, then in front of the tunnel and onto the court. Perhaps it was in front of the tunnel where the incident occurred.

Anyway, thank goodness you guys have your Fed Ex forum Nazis and no one can storm the court on Saturday morning.

Watch your mouth about Dorsey, I take offense to that and this a Memphis forum, not a Blazer forum. I would not go to your forum and call Squeaky a pushing off fouling jerk, even though it is what I think.

If a fan got shoved, I say again, he was too close to Dorsey. I am sure the players walked straight to the locker rooms, and did not go out of their way to run into fans. Can you say the same about your fans?

Ya'll won, fair and square. It is obvious this is the nasty rivalry between CUSA schools. 04-chairshot

Whatver Dorsey is, no UAB goob is gonna come on this forum and mash him.

if that was a school sponsored or endorsed storming of the court, then heads need to roll at UAB. If they planned to have the students storm the court, but did nothing to ensure the safety of the opposing players and staff, I'm sure the university's lawyers were cringing the whole time.

Is Dorsey an emotional player? Yes. Could he do a better job controling it during games? Yes. Refs are gunning for him because he uses his hands rather than his body, and he likes to talk. The talking is not too uncommon in college basketball.

As for not lasting 4 years, the only way that will happen is if Dorsey isn't satisfied with his role on the team. He may be emotional, but he's not a Sean Banks.

I don't blame UAB for being excited. We are their biggest rival, and this victory helps them with their inferiority complex. I still do not think they deserve a bid based on that win alone--

Dorsey is no worse than some UAB players--and they have the biggest trash talking, cheap shotting football players I have ver watched disgrace the game. 04-chairshot

Good job.

Glad to see that even blazer trolls here recognize that "boyfriend" incident as well as Dorsey being a "thug" are both just a crock of crap. All except memphisblazer of course who called Dorsey a time bomb or whatever. Hey, jaga$$...It was the 7,000 or so capacity crowd rednecks that could not even storm the court properly. Glad to see the Memphis envy spilling all over but sometimes it is better just to call it as it was...a bunch of drunken louts being where they should not be. Storm the court....avoid the players, dance for the camera, then leave.

And in that small gym the school approved and assisted the rednecks running onto the court (what would the administration have done if Welmer and complany had actually called more than ZERO fouls on birmingham in the last 8 minutes and Memphis had won...open the gates for the Blue Crew!?

Not smart. I was ok with the kids stroming, this was a huge win for them...but too bad they were such dips.

Now we will see if ONE upset making up the one nice win for birmingham is enough.

an NCAA mandatory fine for first offense, leading to more harsh punishments involving scholarships is the only way the NCAA is going to put a stop to it. Although the idea of assessing techical fouls sounds good, not sure that's going to happen after the game is officially over. That would take rewriting the rules, not just the NCAA passing a policy. Besides, the refs would be halfway to the airport by the time the court was cleared.

Maybe you didn't read my post. Let me summarize.

I stated I was against the whole court storming.

I said I didn't see the incident with Dorsey but believe something happen involving Dorsey, since several people posted about it immediately after the game. It just wasn't one poster. I said I didn't know the details about what happened and don't know if Dorsey was wrong or if the fan was wrong

I did say Dorsey is a timebomb, but it has been said here several times. I hope he doesn't explode, gets his degree and leads a happy healthy life with his girlfriend with the fake furs. ;-)

I came over this morning trying to be honest, civil and clarify a few things. I am not trying to get into with anyone.
