When I was in college (Dark Ages), we had our national fraternity convention in Louiseville. We went to see that fabulous Churchill Downs. That was a dump! Rusty gates and ticket areas, broken glass all over the outfield and a fountain area. The neighborhood makes south Memphis look like Beverly Hills. Man was that a depressing area and the town as a whole stunk. The only exciting thing that happened was Happy Chandler wanted to take us to a strip show. We didn't know who he was at the time, we thought he was some huckster promoting some dive! How were we to know he was an ex Gov and ex Commish of baseball (he is a brother). Since we weren't to polite to him, thank goodness he didn't know who we were! 04-cheers

Never been back to Louiseville.

I agree. We should all focus on hate a more relevant place:

Nashville.

:)
lol...

We compare pretty well with them too these days. One major knock on them is they are the home of a decrepit, impotent state legislature and, frankly, state government. If I were Nashville, I wouldn't be bragging too much about being the capital of Tennessee...

"Well, to use an excuse from your line of thinking, the 8000 fans showed up to see a game against a near no-name school in a game that was NOT on national tv or any tv for that matter, and it was a thursday night, one day before we played a football game on national tv. Because your NATIONALLY TELEVISED game against TCU was on a wednesday night is a piss poor excuse to not fill half the stadium. On tv it looked like there was hardly anyone in the stands, it looked like some high school games I've been to.
And you lead us in attendance by less than 100 people per game, whoop-de-doo, that makes Loserville a freaking bad ass, give me a break"

Can you come up with a few more excuses on that glorious bball game that drew 8000 fans? Who cares if it was a no-name school or whether it was on national tv or whether it was on a Thursday. Good lord. Bottom line is 8000 fans at a Memphis bball game is PATHETIC. We have more that attend freaking scrimmages.

As for the TCU fball game, attendance was 41,000 in a 42,000 capacity stadium. We lead by less than 100 but what's the capacity of the Liberty Bowl? Big difference.

Boy, funny how ESPN caught those 1,000 empty seats on camera. Then they would show them from different angles to make it seem like they were in different parts of the stadium. That was some damn fancy camera work to give the illusion that there were much less than 41,000 people there. Then again, your crowd measuring ability might be a bit off with that 8,000 at a scrimmage thing.

thats funny...one...we were playing Savannah State...two...it was the night before Memphis v. Southern Miss...that game wins the fan fight...and it was our first game at our brand new arena...it takes time to get accustomed to something new...but UL wouldn't know...they have been at the same dump for what...50 years now.

i think it's funny this idiot writer would take shots at our city...Looeyville is know for a baseball bat and a few horses...we're a party capital, home of the blues...and birth place of rock and roll...what a tool.

Go Tigers!!!

man - it was tough leaving my tamales and chilli at blues city before walking 2 blocks to that george mason game.

face it, there just isnt that freaking much to do or places to go in louisville.

last friday night, there were 47k+ at the tigers/usm game, 17k+ downtown at the Griz, around 15k at the assorted high school football playoff games.

Just under 100k at sporting events last friday night. and thats not particularly uncommon in memphis.

Check out who leads CUSA in attendance this year. We've sold out every game but one and that was TCU on a freaking Weds. Oh yeah, and that's without the help of a FedEx buying thousands of tickets and givin them away.

On a cold night after it rained all day, and there's a definite lack of convenient parking around the arena...

Someone's blowing smoke up your bunghole if you believe that is the truth. This probably goes back to Loserville reporting tickets sold and not actual butts in the seats. Why am I arguing with this clown anyway and comparing football to basketball. Let Looneyville play a bball game first before we start comparing programs.

Don't let Bozich get to you Tiger Fans, he has made his living off of provocation of college programs(mostly UL) in his collumns. Most UL Fans detest him.

Personally I love coming home to Memphis when the Cards get the Liberty Bowl bid. It is not easy to be a fan of both teams, for example I wore my Memphis Tigers T-shirt to work today and I got the usual leers from my peers. However as a Memphis native I will continue to wear it.

As far as the stadium attendance goes there are always a couple thousand UL fans around the outer tier of our stadium at any given time so it doesn't always look full on tv. There are LONG restroom lines and a lot of the younger fans like to socialize with the opposite sex during the game. 40,000 is a good number for our games. Remember Memphis is at least 1 1/2 times larger population than Louisville so it is not surprising that Memphis can get more people in the LB for games especially now that West has the program heading in the right direction.

Not all UL fans are arrogant. There is a thread currently on our message board that is about how UM would have been better to take to the Big East than USF. Good luck the rest of the season.

Where do ya'll get those costumes that look like empty seats? You know the red ones, with the seat numbers on the front. Someone sure sells a lot of them, because there are thousands of them at every game I have seen on TV..

p.s. Also congratulations on the great crowd you brought to Memphis for our game. There must have been 2-300, about a half or third of what USM brought.

that's probably the only thing Memphis fans are mad about. The fact that USF was taken over us, not that Cincy and UL are leaving.

a half emtpy Liberty Bowl is just under capacity at the Pizza place.......

I have been to Lville, it's an OK place, if you don't get tired of men with mulletts and sleeveless t-shirts or homely looking women.

One of the things I'm proud about Memphis is that we tell the true attendance. RC said that we sold 52,000 tickets for the USM game, yet the attendance was 47,000.

We get criticized for FedEx buying tickets. Well, at least people showed up for those seats.

Also, from what I heard from others, Louisville requires its basketball season ticket holders to buy football tickets. I'm glad I go to a school that can support both of their largest sports program without resorting to this. If I am wrong on this, then please correct me. I don't want to be relaying false information.

Come on...is this the best you've got??

I've been to Memphis and I think it's safe to say that you're running no risk of a shortage in the mullet, muscle tee and ugly women department.

Pot...meet kettle.
