Generated the lineal championship starting with your suggested initial game. Updated the link in the OP with a new 'Texas' tab. Texas is current lineal champion after defeating Rice for the 3rd defense in the current reign. Texas has the most reigns & wins among the 'Texas' conference.

LIN,Texas-El Paso(#0(0-3))
LIN,Trinity Texas (#1(2-9))
Check out 9/26/81. Texas State won and held until 1986. This is because Texas State is added to your 'Texas' conference because they are D1 today, but they were not D1 in 1981 and only occasionally played the other teams in your 'Texas' conference. My DB is populated with games where there is at least 1 D1 team.
Awesome!
And it took us two tries to get it from Southwest Texas State, as we called them back then.
Iām pretty sure I was at both games (ā86 and ā87), had no idea so much was at stake!!!
