The WalMart where I live has had a big sign outside for over a month saying wearing a facemask was required. However, nobody was enforcing it. I stopped going there a week ago because they closed down an entrance and were filtering everyone through one entrance/exit.
And I'm not exaggerating when I say at least half of the people coming in and out were not wearing masks. They even had someone at the entrance outside. I thought it was to count or to enforce facemasks. However, this person was reclining in the chair they gave him not even paying attention to the people coming in and out.
If that isn't bad enough, people were going underneath the barriers to get inside because they didn't want to walk around another 20 feet.
Until I actually see action, it's nothing more than PR.

Yeah I agree the rule doesn't mean much if it's not enforced.

I've done almost exclusively curbside pickup and drive throughs since late March. But I can count about 5 stores I've been inside of during that time to quickly pick up something specific - Walmart, Walgreens, Foodlion, Costco, and Target. Mask wearing was close to 100% in all of these except Walmart where there were numerous people, including employees, without a mask.

I think that many stores station someone at the door to count the number of people coming and going to make sure that they don't exceed whatever their maximum occupancy is supposed to be. But I suspect they are told not to challenge anyone not wearing a mask.
