The report simply said that VT was at the top of the list. That doesn't mean VT was ready to go.

With that being said, the real discussion around here would be IF it is true then how does that affect everyone's views of whom would be high on the SEC list in other area's and States. If it is about Culture, Stadiums, Fan participation and the ability to compete in the SEC then that opens things up to other schools that others around here would say are not possibilities.

The truth is they did meet to discuss conference membership at the Greenbriar in West Virginia. But it is not what it appears. The SEC was in talks with North Carolina and met with Virginia Tech, but it was not at the impetus of the SEC, nor of the ACC schools. It was done to work out contingencies for protecting property important to ESPN should there be further unexpected defections to the Big 10 of ESPN property within the ACC. In short it was an escape plan for the key property in the ACC, but an escape where ESPN had access and the ACC schools making the move would earn more.

ESPN is not going to pay the SEC to raid property it owns more cheaply in the ACC. At least not without a danged good reason. FOX is that reason. So yes the talks took place, but neither the SEC nor the ACC schools involved were doing anything other than taking precautions. The fact the talks were held does not mean that Virginia Tech or North Carolina wanted to move. It does mean that if circumstances dictated it the SEC is prepared to protect its interests in the South. Finebaum is just trying to gin up ratings and appear to be in the know.

This shows that ESPN, the ACC and the SEC are being very diligent as we wade through the last stages of realignment, and that there is a high level of cooperation.
ESPN's long term approach could possible net the mouse control of, or major access to three conferences out of the remaining four even without the B1G.

Come on, show you actually understand the situation instead of just displaying your biased agenda to see the Big Ten hurt.

If there is one P4/5 conference that ESPN doesn't have its full clutches in, it would be the PAC by far. They have their own Network AND Fox on equal standing with ESPN at Tier 1. The Big Ten and ESPN work together for Tier 1, no one else.

Get real with all this talk and stop being so blatant with your Big Ten hate. It seriously skews your analyzing.

H1,
The Newberry guy over on the ACC board is blatant about his dislike for the ACC. There isn't anyone around here that has come close to talking about the B1G that way.
