I remember listening on the radio to Bear Bryant's first game at Alabama with my dad. It was Alabama vs LSU at Ladd Stadium. LSU had Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon, and beat the Tide 13-3 after trailing 3-0 at the half. Alabama played one game at Ladd almost every season from 1948 to 1968. In fact the first college game there was Alabama vs Vanderbilt. Bear saw the Ladd games as an excellent recruiting gimmick for Mobile and coastal Mississippi.
