But then, if you recognize that you can't just swap some schools like baseball cards, why not the rest? For instance, why in the world would LA Tech move to a conference containing ULM? It seems a lot more likely that they would stay put than move.

The "sit down and have a summit" just won't work ... the "summit" will deadlock and nothing will happen. Scratch underneath the surface, and it's still imagining conferences trading schools like trading baseball cards, which isn't how it works.

Now the Western CUSA schools could indeed bolt to the Sunbelt if they wanted to, and if they did, it might set off some partial geographic consolidation but ...

... (1) likely far from perfect, for reasons like the LA Tech / ULM scenario, and also because its just as possible that CUSA makes a smaller counter-raid than a big one, leaving a lot of overlap still in place ...

... and (2) they'd have to want to move first, or the ball doesn't get rolling in the first place, and things would have to shift a ways from where they are now, in terms of both media money and bowl lineups, for them to want to move.
