My opinion all always been the playoff will eat up most of the TV money going to G5 conferences and that will cause a restructuring of the G5 conferences into more regional arrangements. This guy seem to have the same take on the money part aspect.

I think the guy is crazy. For starters the G5 haven't been winning most recruiting battles with P5 teams for years. That's nothing new. Second--NFL scouts have proven they can find talent anywhere--and they are getting better and better at it. They will find you anywhere---with one caveate---they cant find you on the bench. So, what recruits know is that if you get on the field and excel---the NFL will find you. There is a limit to how much talent the Alabamas of the world can stockpile. You have to get on the field to be seen by the NFL scouts---the recruits will go where they can play. A top recruit isnt interested in sitting on the bench as the 3 string left tackle---even at Alabama.
Finally, the bowl situation has sucked since the beginning of time for mid-majors. In the beginning, there were just a few bowls and it was tough to get any bowl for anyone--especially mid-majors. The BCS made it tougher to get a good bowl---but the number of bowls expanded so much that now you can likely get to a bowl if you qualify. Yeah--it will be a piece of crap bowl---but its better than nothing.
Frankly, I think the new playoff represents a marginal improvement for mid-majors for 3 reasons.
1) Its easier to get to #4 than it is to get to #2. Plus, now that the playoff is here---its going to expand eventually.
2) More money. The money is a significant shot in the arm and will help cover some of the new costs coming from autonomy (which was coming one with or without the new playoff).
3) Guaranteed access. When the BCS began, there was ZERO access for the non-AQ. That slowly got better, but the access granted was always conditional. You had to reach a certain ranking. Thus, many years, no G5 team participated in the BCS post season. Now, the best G5 champion is guaranteed access---regardless of rank. That's a pretty big step forward. The G5 will always be represented in the CFP postseason--GUARANTEED.
