Julius Bolden in transfer portal
Means that there are now only 4 RB's on the roster for next year. Obviously Waylee, Brown, and Blakemore make an excellent backfield, but doesn't leave much room for injuries.
Wonder if this increases the chances of Ron Kellman choosing NIU over Minnesota?? That would be an excellent trade.

Julius Bolden in transfer portal
I like his "tape" but he had limited offers. I'd expect him to go FCS based upon the Ducker experience and what still is available in portal.

I don't blame him. If you're at the back of the depth chart and you really want to play, time to take a step back and accept that you're below D1.

Did Lawson never make it to NIU?

Don't remember Bolden being mentioned in practices. Was Hammock high on him?

Nothing was every said about him that I can recall, but that isn't shocking for a true freshman who was behind Waylee, Rat, Ducker, Brown, Blakemore, Collins, and Chapman on the depth chart.

The Julius Boldens of the world are the players that I would expect to enter the portal. Players that realize that they may never see the playing time they hoped will most likely transfer.

He played DB as well. Was hoping he would have transitioned to a solid DB, but oh well. Next man up.

This is good for him, he gets a chance to play collegiate ball. This is good for us, we get a scholly to give to a walk on or transfer. Here's a situation in which the portal works.

RE: Julius Bolden in transfer portal
A little off topic but…. When I’m bored I’ve looked at the transfer portal twitter feed and noticed things that don’t make a lot of sense to me. It’s been a real long time since I rode the bench. I certainly understand wanting to get in the game and get playing time and the frustration of seeing guys who I perceived to be worse than I getting more minutes. But I was realistic and knew that I would never have a career playing ball. What I’m seeing is guys who were fairly highly rated coming out of high school who are/were at some really top notch academic schools - Stanford, Duke, Penn in the portal who have committed to FCS schools - Maine, Rhode Island, etc. While they may get more playing time after they transfer, what are the chances they’ll get drafted by the NFL? Wouldn’t whoever is counseling them suggest sticking it out at the academically superior school for the long term benefits? I’m aware that athletes want to compete, but at some point logic plays a part, right?

A few factors:
1) a kid may be in over his head a duke, etc.
2) the player graduated. Going for a master elsewhere and some PT
3) education isn’t really the #1 deciding factor, you have to play on Saturdays to play on sundays - so why not give it a try? Lots of FCS kids go on to the NFL.

Good points Chilla, I also believe the time a Div. 1 player has to dedicate to football is just mind boggling between weight room, exercising, position meetings, film study as well a practicing beside your class load and study time. Let's be honest, this is not just for a semester, this is your schedule for the year which includes summer. I think that all the time that you put into football and then you don't get to see the field is disheartening to the kid.
I do realize that the kid gets a full ride scholarship, but if you can go to another school and still get a scholarship and see the field, I think that would be a better option

RE: Julius Bolden in transfer portal
I don't think u have to play on Saturdays to play on Sundays but to the extent that players believe that they're going to transfer even if it isn't in their best interests
