One of those things is not like the other! Yeah, UCLA has some explaining to do, LOL. Then again, they've always kind of underperformed relative to their talent. They are #15 all-time in number of players in the NFL, and in the top 10 all-time in number of games played in the NFL but have only one shared national title (1954 UPI) to show for it. All the other schools in the top 15 on that list have multiple national titles. UCLA also has six NFL hall of famers, in the top 10 on that list as well. Also, it's pretty shocking for USC to be off the list. They're always on it. IIRC, they are #2 all-time in both number of NFL players and number of games played by NFL players. E.g, if a player graduated from Memphis in 2010 and is still in the NFL today, is he counted for C-USA or for the AAC? To me, he should be credited to C-USA, as that was the conference he played in while at Memphis. But I don't know how they do it. Perhaps even the MWC. In my opinion, the Sun Belt becomes the #7 conference. I think they eventually get to 14 by losing ULM and raiding CUSA of Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Marshall, UAB, and Southern Miss. I think Texas St gets quite a bit stronger. RE: Colleges on 2020 NFL rosters - quo vadis - 09-23-2020 10:13 AM FWIW, here is the all-time top 25: Notre Dame ...... 591 USC ................. 526 Ohio State ........ 494 Michigan ........... 410 Penn State ........ 404 LSU .................. 385 Alabama ............ 383 Nebraska ........... 380 Oklahoma and Miami .......... 378 Florida ...............362 Tennessee .......... 355 Georgia .............. 352 UCLA ................. 344 Wisconsin ........... 343 Texas ................ 340 Pitt .................... 334 Michigan State .... 331 Texas AM ........... 324 FSU .................. 316 So a pretty blue-bloody list there. RE: Colleges on 2020 NFL rosters - EigenEagle - 09-24-2020 10:12 AM Below the P5 level you can't necessarily judge a program by the number of pro players they have. Rice might have more players on NFL rosters than anyone outside the P5 and AAC, and they've been mostly bad. Some G5 programs run crappy pro-style offensive schemes and get more than their fair share of future NFL players, and some coaches will recruit guys based on the eyeball test which will produce NFL players but not good rosters. In the Sun Belt I'd argue (more so than CUSA and MAC) there's the formula of recruiting undersized guys with speed which isn't a good formula to send guys to the NFL but builds good teams (and I'd argue that's the formula Boise used in the 00s). Rice might have more players on NFL rosters than anyone outside the P5 and AAC, and they've been mostly bad. Well, here are the top ten G5 teams: Temple ...... 20 UCF .......... 13 Houston .... 13 Wyoming ... 13 Boise ......... 12 Cincy ......... 12 Memphis .... 11 USM .......... 11 SMU .......... 10 FAU ........... 9 Surely, there isn't a perfect correlation. E.g., Temple is way out in front (last year they had 12, so quite an explosion upwards) and while they have been successful in recent years, they haven't dominated. And Wyoming and USM have not been very good either. But the others are mostly a whose-who of the best G5 teams in recent years, so I would say that even among the G5 there is a pretty strong positive correlation between having NFL talent and performing well on the field. |
