I'm sure it won't be this way for everyone, but I went into it thinking it'd probably be cool and came out of it understanding how people get obsessed with traveling to every total eclipse they can.

Might be that I've just seen my fair share in my 55 years. But having lived in WV and Alaska I've always been surrounded by nature's wonder. I've seen many eclipses over my lifetime and they just don't move the needle for me. I agree the social aspect is probably a lot of fun, with a lot of people gathered for a common interest. I definitely have zero interest in the mystical aspects of them.

Lunar eclipses are super lame. Partial eclipses are lame. I’ve seen several in my life, up to 90%. This was completely different. Even an annular eclipse would pale in comparison. Have you ever been in totality of a complete eclipse? It was an experience. Getting as dark as dusk. Being able to look at the white corona of the sun with binoculars, and see red solar projections was amazing. I likely won’t travel to see another one, so it was really nice seeing one from the comfort of my home.

RE: Crazy weather here
National Weather Service has now confirmed 9 total tornadoes hit our tri-state area last Tuesday during that fast moving storm. None of them were very big and mostly EF1s, but in a region rife with mobile home and RV parks it's a miracle no one was killed.

Wasn't there also a confirmed Derecho? I could be wrong, but I thought I saw it on the local news. 102mph wind gusts in Huntington.

Yes, has to have 75 mph winds sustained for 240 miles, I believe. Saw Tony Cav confirm it later that day or the next. I just thought WV having 9 separate tornadoes in a day was the crazier news.

In for some more crap today with chance of severe weather. The 2012 derecho had the same jet stream we are experiencing now. Dips south in the west and drives cool air to the storm generating western gulf and makes a U shape in the southern states, driving those storms right up to us from areas that normally get them. If we're getting this in April, June is going to be insane. Hopefully the pattern shifts and we go back to dull rain showers. Earthquakes and tornado type stuff is my kryptonite. I've been face to face with brown bears in Alaska and wasn't afraid, but severe weather scares the hell outta me.

There’s been 15 confirmed now, though a few of those are in SE OH and E KY.

We're used to water and we didn't get it like Nawlins and Texas areas. Saw they had 2 inches per hour with feet of rain accumulated in some areas. This storm moved much slower than last week allowing all that rain to drop.

Local news definitely capitalized on last week to sensationalize this latest storm instead of just saying it was breaking apart and wasn't going to be a big deal here. Shameful. They were wrong last week, severely underestimating the morning portion and the severity. this week they were dishonest as if every single person doesn't have a weather app with a radar on it and could see it coming apart and amounting to nothing. They closed schools and businesses based on that BS. They've got to do better and they lost all the good will from last week.

Their job is not disseminating the news or weather, it's selling traffic for advertising.
