My mistake. Had Tulane beaten SMU then Liberty would have not made the top 12. In this example I was wrong. But you can easily see this happening every season there’s an undefeated G5 that’s not from the AAC.

I will say there are probably too many bowl games. But also everything about the NCAA is designed to keep the same teams up top, as the rich get richer and the lower level programs like us only serve to be a free farm team.

Sometimes I think there are individuals who will hate watch KH just for something to get outraged about and feel disrespected...even if it's a stretch to make the connection.

You can't seriously compare basketball with football. In basketball, 64 teams is close to 20% of Division I.

In football, 4 teams out of 130 is 3%. If the NFL did that the playoff would consist of 1 team. That is not a playoff.

We’re talking about next year with 12 teams.

The bowls are meaningless to me, NIU or not. The bowls are a holdover of an era long past, and are another reason why FBS is unable or unwilling to adopt a true playoff that involves all the division conferences IE FCS, division 2, division 3.

Do I expect FBS to expand playoffs to 16 teams to create a true playoff? Not really. But until the bowls are gone, this will never be a possibility.

With next year’s format they both might make it. Since the Power 5 conferences decided to destroy the PAC12 there is one less conference to choose from. So until the current playoff contract runs out or is changed, two group of 5 champions will make it.

Thats a good point about the Pac-12. Depending on how they rebuild they may be no better than the MWC. But then you'd likely see Oregon State run the conference table most seasons and have an over inflated record. To me it still feels like they want it to be the top 11 ranked teams plus 1 G5. God forbid you get two undefeated teams from the non AAC G5 conferences.

I like 16 team playoff for an extra G5 and for the the fact that a 12 team playoff has 4 bye's in week one. No bye's with a 16 team. Seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot financially and TV wise by sitting the 4 biggest teams out of round 1.

The 2016 13-0 WMU team made it up to #15. Feels like the highest any undefeated team from the MAC,CUSA or SBC can ever get is that 12-15 ranking bc the of the weak SOS. Then you just have to rely on the auto bid falling your way.
