I would suspect it's something way more prosaic than a few diversity classes. Cost, or perception of crime, perhaps reputation of certain programs (rightly judged or not). Could be how the campus looks too - compared to others, when potential students are touring the place. People do care about that.

I don't disagree with you. But I would argue that before we get into extra curriculars, maybe we should focus our efforts into fixing what is foundationally wrong with NIU.

You can employ whatever strategy you want, as long as the strategy works. And currently, our strategy isn't working.

We've been able to make the case that lack of state funding, decreasing state populations, crime and rivaling states offering comparable in state tuition discounts as our issue. But UIC, Illinois and Illinois State have all been able to grow in an adverse environment. So stop making excuses, and fix that damn thing.

There are a couple things that are out of the control of NIU's president and other leaders so I was mentioning those - as they might not be impacting ISU and UIC as much. And actual crime doesn't matter that much, it's the perception of the crime that matters in people deciding what school to go to. And that could be something that ISU suffers from less - I'm sure they're not reporting crimes that happen in Normal on the Chicago nightly news. I am sure there are other factors and it's hard to know what things NIU can actually do.

I would like to know how much NIU is currently getting from the state versus how much they were getting before. Hard to gauge anything without knowing that.

It's not any one thing. But the reason for decline could be driven by a single reason than most.

I think it's collegiate experience. Bring back kegs, let the kids party, and bring back Saturday tailgates. Games on Saturday was more than just about the game being played on Saturday. It was also another reason to party. Football got the party started and going well into the night.

Yea, don't get me started on what they've done to the gameday experience.

Anti-semitism and extreme left politics are forever bedfellows, and always have been (e.g., Marx, etc.). It’s part of the playbook.

It is obvious that extreme right tends to be anti-semitic. Part of their platform.

Historically speaking, that isn't true. Every communist government/movement across time from Marx to Hitler to Pol Pot to the KKK...you name it. Was done with a leftist/socialist starting point.

Ku Klux Klan was right wing. They were also anti-semitic. Hitler was right-wing. Also anti-semitic. These people on the right are the ones that are xenophobic. It isn't even just Jews they don't like. They don't want immigrants that don't look like themselves.

"Hitler was right wing" Maybe you can get your money back from your minor in history at NIU!!! Nazi is a synonym of the >>National Socialist German Workers’ Party, or Nazi Party<<

"They don't want immigrants that don't look like themselves." The boogie men "they". You can't/won't/dom't define who they is.

Are you living in a alternate Universe? KKK was set up by the Democrat party in the South. Just because the South is trending Red now, you equate this with starting the KKK. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Try looking up the history of Democrat Senator Robert Byrd. He is the mentor to Hillary and Joe, and he basically ran the KKK for years. This is the problem with education teaching what they want to believe to fit a narrative rather than the truth. Get educated a bit before making clearly false statements.

So you are telling me if a white supremest / KKK member was going to vote today it would democrat because nothing changed in the demographics of each, party, namely in the South?

That when a David Duke comes out to support a Trump, he says little, acts like who is he it’s all a ploy, a set up?
