If Walton will hit his shots, run the plays and play good defense he will get plenty of playing time.

Both Hardaway boys are doing those things, why can't he?

Ashton can shoot but is a bit slow, Jayden is, well Jayden.

Neither should play ahead of Walton at this point imo

I do think Brown can help this team but he is a half step slow, but great touch around the hoop.

Such is life in the new NIL era.

Agree.

I played devil's advocate for him when he started looking questionable.

But in truth, he doesn't seem to like to bang, block or rebound all that much. That being said, we need him to stay and develop.

As soon as we start bombing from downtown, any guy under the basket looks pretty good. shrug

But Malco...man he looks great right now.

Agree, but unfortunately when Malco is playing hard with lots of minutes he's either getting in foul trouble or he gets hurt. It's a shame, he's proving to be a real asset this season

He was continually late down the floor & out of position on defense; & then he would be so winded, smaller players were able to push him around on the block. The guy played more like he was a slow 6’4” power forward than a potential 6’11” pro center. What a disappointment, but also what a godsend he decided to leave the team this early. He would have been a season long, piss & vinegar distraction.

I sure as hell hope we didn’t pay his ass upfront.

That being said… Penny has to back it down with the obvious nepotism. He has more talented players riding the pine so he can play his sons. Walton has got to be in the rotation & Jayden’s minutes must be reduced.

Minutes played of the top 10 have Ashton 9th at 12.5/gm beating out Young who is at 12.3. Jayden ranks 8th at 13.3 just below Brown who is at 13.6.

Walton is 4th at 26.5 just missing Mills, 26.6 for third. Jones leads at 31.1 and then Quinerly at 30.4.

It appears Ashton, Jayden and Young's minutes come while resting starters.

I mean, does everyone forget he was a star freshman at Arizona?

I’m pretty sure he’s used to playing against schools like Villanova and Arkansas.

I don’t know what his problem is, but it’s not the level of competition.

My thoughts exactly ... He plays best against teams with smaller or no bigs. Like our first 3 games. I think he stays and plays. But I've been wrong before ... 07-coffee3

You're right.
It doesn't fit the narrative, but over the past 4 games (where we went 2-2, by the way), Walton has averaged over 24 minutes per game. Young has averaged over 14 minutes per game in the same stretch. OTOH, Ashton has averaged 15 minutes per game over the same span, and Jaden has averaged just over 12 minutes per game.

Not sure I buy the notion that the Hardaways are overeating on starters' minutes.

I, for one, want to see the dawg I saw in Walton when we played against him at Wichita State.
And I don't know how many minutes a backup PG can expect to play, regardless his team.

Does anyone know if Brown made the trip? Our beat writers have to be the worst of all time to not know if a player is on a plane or not

Walton averaged 32 minutes per game at Wichita State & shot the ball substantially better 53% vs 39%. Either their offense provided him better shots or the rotation is impacting his rhythm & performance.

I know this much-that deep corner 3 he hit late in the VCU game was a thing of beauty.
He also might have been more of a focus of the offense for the Shockers. IDK.
Haven't done the math, but I wonder what he averaged in points, %age and rebounds in games against Memphis?

In the two games against Memphis last year, Walton was 11-16 (68%) from the field with 6 rebounds & averaged 37 minutes per game. Penny is playing Jayden at the expense of the team; & it could lead to more drama later in the season.
