I’m fully prepared for a loss in this game. We have to remind ourselves that this game doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t impact the goal of getting to Detroit.

We need to see improvement from Smith and our WRs. That is key; if the passing game doesn’t improve, everything else is kind of moot.

Holy, I respectfully have to disagree. True this game means nothing in the MAC standings, but I believe the MAC Champs would not lose to a team like Jax. To me this is the game that shows if we are a contender or pretender.

So...the MAC championship doesn't hang in the balance with this non conference game?

I don't think there is a connection. Toledo won the MAC last year and lost to San Diego State (a 7-5 team). The year before NIU won the MAC...lost to a 6-6 Wyoming team. I think it would very much be possible to lose a hard fought game, learn from the loss, get some of our injured players back, and still potential win the MAC. Toledo plays @UMass in a few weeks, I think the same would be true for them if they were to lose that game.

I would like to see how good this defense could be if it wasn't on the field as much due to our offensive struggles.

This game matters a ton as it relates to bowl game status. Better the bowl game the better the pay-out. I understand the MAC does Rev Gen sharing but the better the bowl game the more eyeballs and publicity.

Yes. There is an attractive bowl game in Detroit. 03-idea

Nickle you are so spot on about the coverage. I whine about it incessantly.

That said, JSU is two hours from Sabanville, unlike our 6 miles from UM. We are also 45 minutes from a pro sports team and Alabama has ZERO of such. Tough place for EMU to be regarding sports coverage.

I cannot agree with you more about the value of the game vs JAX St. I had three hopes for the football team this season. First: Win the MAC conference and I already forgot the other two. A loss to JSU will not be fatal.

Same. But I really want to see good series from the o-line and QB.

While I agree a loss to this tiny school would not be fatal, there is no reason to expect a loss to a team of this caliber. I fully expect a win Saturday and would be surprised and disappointed with an L.

Last week we played Don Brown

This week we play Rich Rod

I hope this doesn't mean we're about to play Brady Hoke at San Diego State.

You are right once again Professor. Preserving Samson's knees for the rest of the season are one thing, not throwing the ball effectively is another.

Jacksonville State is about 10,000 students compared to Eastern’s 15,000. So definitely smaller, but would not call it a tiny school. Still I agree with you, since they are newly moved up to the FBS sub division and given the level Coach Creighton has elevated EMU to, a loss should be considered disappointing.

Ramy, you are correct, that loss was disappointing. That said, we did run into a buzzsaw. Jax St has a coach with a very respectable W-L record in Power 5 conferences. They also had a week off prior to prepare for a HOMECOMING game. Still, we did lay an egg for sure.

I am, however, baffled as to the Wiz from Iowa implying that a "tiny" school could be a sub-standard foe. This is after all, NCAA football where all FBS schools are allotted 85 scholarships regardless of enrollment. Notre Dame has a smaller student body than EMU, should we be expected to beat them as well? This is not HS football.
