Taking time to focus on his hairline.

EDIT - Sorry, that was Alan Major.

Niners - is this an "addition by subtraction" type deal? Or will he be missed?

It’s a good thing he’s gone IMO, but the timing kinda ****** us for finding a new coach. It also ***** over the players that just committed and the ones that decided not to enter the portal that maybe would have wanted to do so rather than play for someone else. It also ***** his assistants because there won’t be other programs looking for assistants right now.

I say good riddance to him, but I’m also not surprised that a coach that will bus toss his players in post game interviews will **** over fellow coaches and players.

So, him stepping down means we can stop paying him? No pay out, etc??

RE: Sanchez steps down as Charlotte HC
I think Sanchez has reached his ceiling and he knew it. Looked for an out and took it. Timing-wise it's a dick move on his part. Guy has camps set up for end of the month.

That said, I don't think the fanbase is too sad about this. The CBI Championship didn't impress anyone and too many players hit the Portal. He knew next year was going to be brutal and he probably sees this as a reputation-saving move.

I suspect one of two things:

1) Fearne will be interim for the entirety of 23-24.

or

2) Mike Hill has his guy already.

you dont get your guy in june... you sabotage him as the portal is dry at this point and he cant put players in the portal.. you have to interim with someone who knows the players on roster. itll be a lame duck season

Even though we have shared a conference for a decade, I know very little about Charlotte basketball and even less about your coaching situation. I can say from an outsider's perspective that this looks kind of bad. With no insight into why he is gone, on the surface it looks like the Charlotte coach that just won the CBI resigned to go be an assistant at Virginia. I know there has to be more to this story. No head coach just walks away to be an assistant. If you can, please give us less informed fans some details that might make sense of this matter. Thanks, and good luck with the coaching search. Let us know when some potential names leak out. 04-cheers

He pretty much knew he was going to get fired after this season if he didn’t make the NCAAs. He bailed when Daddy Bennett gave him the opportunity. I would be mad if I didn’t want him fired two seasons ago. It will probably be a lost year and a rebuild but this was inevitable.

clt says this is the best outcome possible on 6.6.23

we can hire a new coach or promote an assistant to HC
uva rehiring him means we are done with his salary

he wasn't getting an extension so this year was going to be chaos

I don’t believe so but the timing couldn’t be worse. Pressure is on our AD Mike Hill for both of the new football and basketball hires to work out or it is probably his job too.

Let the remaining coaching staff take over on an interim basis. It sounds like Sanchez took the easy way out while he could. At least he's gone, and Charlotte can go find a better coach.

What happened to Charlotte Basketball? Wasn't it very competitive years ago? Isn't there a basketball tradition that dates way back? The program could be a big player for the AAC if it could return to its former glory.

Used to be a solid program, yes, but incoming freshman still lived in their dads ballsack the last time we were good.
